This is my all time favorite book and everyone should read it. It gives you new insight into what our military people go through to keep us safe. It also helps that I love animals and am a firm believer in service animals, i.e., dogs, cats, horses, etc. They have instincts beyone ours in helping people. Luis Carlos Montalvan has endured several injuries due to his service years. He and Tuesday are remarkable and lovable. Please read the book. If you buy it, and I hope you will, I believe the proceeds go to help the Wounded Warrior program. If I am wrong please correct me.

This book is so amazing - a truly inspired story about the importance a dog can play in deep healing.
I borrowed this book through the library where I work, read it, bought a copy for my grandson and his father, and bought another copy for a man I know who is suffering from PTSD. This is a MUST read for anyone who has family coming back from combat with mental health issues, for anyone who has struggled with depression. It is a truly amazing story of how much healing takes place through having a furry companion who takes care of you (and you take care of them). I had a golden retriever named Maize - she came to me as a "rescue". My uncle had goldens all his adult life and they were the most beautiful and gentle creatures you could ever hope to meet. His last dog, Maize looked so much like the picture of Tuesday on the cover that I picked up the book because it looked like our Maize. My uncle had Parkinson's disease and had to be admitted to a care facility. I knew Maize could not be lost to our family, even though we had a very small home and already had a chocolate lab, Megan. Those two dogs became joyous friends. My uncle chose to be admitted to a care facility in another town. Every time we traveled through on our way to visit family elsewhere in Colorado, Maize went went us, and we stopped to visit him. I have the most beautiful photo of him hugging her with tears in his eyes. He was reluctant to let her go. She was a beautiful, gentle and sweet presence in our family for many years, until we lost her to diabetes. The description in the book of Tuesday's smile is so accurate (if you have ever known a golden, they really do smile!) After reading this book, I had to find out what is going on locally for our veterans here (we live in a town with a VA hospital). There is an amazing program called "Pets for Vets" here that pairs veterans with shelter animals and is funded largely by one nurse (out of her own pocket). I am doing my best to organize people I know who are artists and craftsmen to contribute to their one fundraiser of the year, a silent auction in October. I will never quit telling this story, and it began with reading Until Tuesday. Thank you, Luis, for writing this amazing story. I know you and Tuesday and making a difference wherever you go and for whoever reads this lovely book.

I bought the book because of the Golden Retriever on the cover and stayed with it because of the story. A story of love and loss followed by triumph. Remember that love isn't always about romance.

I have a Golden, and there were several incidents that made me laugh out loud because I could picture my dog doing the same things.

Fate matched Luis and Tuesday, and they were each what the other needed.

This book has touched so many people who have gone through and are still going through the devilish throes of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome and Tramatic Brain Injury. It has opened so many eyes.

I whole heartedly recommend this book.

Until Tuesday is an inspiring story of courage and unconditional love and left me crying as I finished the last lines. It is not often that a book can leave you with such a depth of emotion and a desire to pursue the ideology behind it. It is a beautiful thing to have a soulmate like Tuesday who loves unconditionally and is always there to watch your back and keep you grounded. Reading about Luis's war experiences and its impact on him was enlightening to say the least and has given me a heightened understanding of how difficult it must be for servicemen and women to return to a "normal" life.
There are many other issues within the pages of this book and Luis's bravery and strength of character shows in his desire to actively address them. He should be commended for the strength of his convictions and his honesty.
A "must read" for anyone who loves dogs and believes in the powerful connection that they have with their human counterparts. The added bonus is in gaining a better understanding of disability and the difficulties which people the world over continue to face.
The intuition and willingness to just "be there" that dogs display can never be underestimated. I am certain that they understand far more than they are given credit for and Luis's experience certainly demonstrates this. Until Tuesday is a joy to read. It is a telling description of the human condition on many levels both positive and not so positive but the conclusion is clear. If one is willing to open their heart and mind to the possibility that a dog can save their life on many levels, then they have begun to follow the path back, perhaps not back to their previous life, but to another new life with great possibilities.

"The first thing everyone notices is the dog." Until Tuesday A Wounded Warrior and the Golden Retriever Who Saved Him by Luis Carlos Montalván

My favorite part of the book was when he was doing some training with Tuesday and other veterans and their dogs. He tells about how Tuesday didn't really want to concentrate and he tells how he got down and was forehead to forehead with Tuesday. He says he waited for Tuesday to stop glancing around! LOL Anyone who has had a retriever will find this hysterical because they are always looking around and wanting to know whats going on! I laughed and could just picture in my mind Tuesday looking around like "what are they doing over there" and not wanting to miss a thing. Luis says he stayed that way for about 5 minutes and after he says he and Tuesday had an "understanding" I had a golden for 10 years and he was a total nut as was my lab! That was my favorite part of the book just because of the patience and understanding Luis had with Tuesday and the way I could picture Tuesday's behavior!! LOL

I love this book--it reveals so much about the horrible wounds of war and the healing love of a remarkable dog. In so many ways, Tuesday and Luis helped heal each other. I finished reading this book months ago but it is still on the table by my reading chair. The story is a continuing inspiration.

I have so much respect for Luis Carlos and his Tuesday....they are so inspiring.

I absolutely loved the book, until, surprisingly, the author was coming out as a Bush basher, and amazingly in favor of Obama! He say's he's disappointed in Obama, but doesn't say why. I was extremely turned off by that. For a veteran to jump on that bandwagon is truly out of character.
