Ken | 1 comments While reading this book, I pictured Robert Downey Jr. playing Locke. His "Sherlock Holms" would fit right in.

Napoez3 | 158 comments Warner Brothers has the rights for the movie adaptation...

Reading that I think I'll be disappointed.

Warren | 1556 comments The actor need to be fairly young.
Probably people we've never heard of.
(Unless they try to use the Harry Potter mob)
If your going to use older actors you may as well
call it Oceans 14 or 15.

Anne Schüßler (anneschuessler) | 847 comments We already have a thread that started with picturing the Harry Potter cast, but quickly turned into a discussion about who we would cast. You can find it here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/8...

I'd imagined either Stephen Fry or Michael Caine as Chains. Can't quite decide what would be better. I love them both.

As for the others I don't have any real preferences. Either Gary Oldman or Alan Rickman would make a great Bondsmagi I think.

The only thing I'm sure of is that it would have to be British or Irish actors. I don't know why but seeing this on screen without fancy accents would seem wrong to me.

Tim | 64 comments I pictured The Falconer being younger than Gary or Alan, although I do agree that either of those guys can totally own an evil magician role.

I always imagined Chains as being played by Brian Blessed, but that might be just me... he always seems to get a part somewhere in the books I read. I like Stephen Fry better though I think!

Brian Blessed would make a great chains.

Stuart (stuartellis) | 47 comments I imagined Locke as Edward Norton, probably because of The Illusionist and The Score.

Chains seemed slightly sinister and obsessive to me, and I thought of Anthony Hopkins.

Steve Ko (stko) | 3 comments Orlando Bloom as Locke, of course! He's thin and has that mischievous twinkle in his eye. He may be a little old for the role, but I think he still has the youthful face to pull it off.

Ian Wright (wasted) | 17 comments From the moment the book started describing the Elderglass buildings I thought this would make a great animated movie from Studio Ghibli, their style would really match the city I think.

Having it animated would let you use all the good older actors too for voices.

Mansford Masters I feel like whatever actor portrays Locke needs to be much younger than most people are thinking. I would say for roughly half of the first book in the Gentleman Bastards' series he is under the age of 10. So, there would need to be a young child version of him, and a teenage version, someone around 16-17, that could grow into more a young adult if a second movie became possible. Some characters I feel like have really easy choices though.

Chains:
For some reason the one person I totally picture here all the time is Donald Sumpter, the man who plays Maester Luwin on Game of Thrones. I feel like he would fit very well. Although Michael Caine fits good too.
Thiefmaker:
This is another character that I have a very clear picture for and it is none other than David Bradley, the man who played Argus Filch in the Harry Potter series.
Gray King:
Gary Oldman seems like a solid fit here for the cool and gray demeanor. Jeremy Irons might fit here too though I think.
Locke:
This is a tough one to me, and I really have no idea. Leonardo Dicaprio for sure but hes just a bit too old imo. Maybe Chandler Canterbury. Maybe Asa Butterfield?
Dona Sofia Salvara:
Gal Gadot. plain and simple.
Jean:
Totally clueless. If anybody has some better suggestions for him and Locke much appreciated lol.

Agreed...
NOW, for the casting... (These are only for characters for whom I actually have an idea...)
Chains: Alfred Molina
The Grey King: Jeremy Irons
The Thiefmaker: Ben Kingsley (if you have doubts watch the 2005 version of Oliver Twist...)
Dona Vorchenza/The Dukes Spider: Helen Mirren.
The Falconer: Tom Hiddelston
If this were 3-5 years in the future, I'd suggest Asa Butterfield for Locke. Twenty years ago, I'd cast Johnny Depp. Considering the pace of development, Butterfield might actually be a good candidate.
Orlando Bloom as Locke? I imagine him more as a Don Salvara... ie. Will Turner Reincarnated.
Captain Reynart would be Ewen Mccregor with his Jack the Giant Slayer moustache.
Barsavi's and unknown. Tentatively Angus Macfayden for his role in Turn if he can do a passable Italian accent. Not that the movie would have such an accent. But Barsavi kind of needs one to sound more Mafioso without going Brooklyn. Brendan Gleeson might also be Good here...
Possibly Eva Green (Sybilla in The Kingdom of Heaven) for Dona Sofia Salvara but don't quote me on that one.
Other than that, I have no idea. Don't even ask me about Jean.

Javier For some reason I kept picturing the Falconer as Dane DeHaan (Green Goblin/Harry Osborn from the new Amazing Spider Man movie) and Sofia Salvara as Kristen Bell.

As for Locke, I think Emile Hirsch would do the job.
