I aspire to get up early and practice in the morning, but I have an unhealthy relationship with my snooze button, so that hasn't really worked. If I come home right after work at 5, that is usually the best time for me to practice. Once I get involved with making dinner and cleaning up, the evening seems to disappear.
For years I kept practicing through my monthly cycle, even power yoga, but within the last year something changed. I don't know if it's in my mind but during that time I feel like my body just needs rest. I have no interest in going to a class, but in the evening I am drawn to my mat and like to do really gentle, nurturing asanas (child's pose, reclined supported cobbler's pose, legs up the wall). What's kind of interesting is this is when I'm most dedicated to my home practice.
I have some friends who still like to practice vigorously, even inversions, during their cycles. I guess it depends on what your body needs at any stage of your life and how strictly you follow the guidelines in the yogic texts.

I thought inversion was a no-no at that time of the month. I did do it anyway the other night because I just wanted to. It feels really good to me. I generally have felt a need to be nice to myself at that time. Looks like you've found a good way to do it with gentle asanas. Maybe I could try that. Interesting that that is when your home practice thrives most. Nesting?
I'm not so strict with my yoga at home. Just what feels good. In class it's following the routine for the day. What I like about Dynamic is the way they transition from poses. They are often using the downward dog pose as a relaxation to the next more difficult position and the child's pose too. Gives my body a short break before the next challenge.
