The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon

Sounds awesome! I think we should pick an Unofficial pick every other month -- and that one can be voted by the online members? How does that sound? Shadow of the Wind is good for the first one.
I love love love Shadow of the Wind. It's my favorite book for 2008 (that's if we don't count Poison Study and Princess Bride -- which I'm still reading). I recommended it to my Novel class and I think several people are going to check it out.
I think a mature teen would be able to handle some of the more "graphic" scenes (you know, like the scene with Clara and the music teacher).

I think it's definitely Alex Awards material--shame it was never a winner (but I bet it was probably nominated at some point--the same year it came out in the US both Kite Runner and Time Traveler's Wife won Alex Awards--and they're pretty darn graphic.)

Yay! Hard question: What do you like about it? I think his other book is going to be translated into English soon.

Oh yeah, and Alethea--
I wanted to lend out my copies (plural for it includes the hardcover you gave me), but Alfonso flat out said no when I wanted to lend out the hc. He says it's too nice to lend to other people. So only my qp is circulating through several friends/family.

Damn straight, Fonso! ^_^
I'm still waiting for my special edition to arrive. If it comes by Sunday I'll bring it. I have to remember to bring Beedle.
By the way, this is what you got me for Christmas (with your EGC and my 40% off coupon)
Thank you!

I can't let savages touch the book. That is what the QP is for. I can't wait to read it. I have a few other books to finish first.

Is it the third one that Alethea listed above? ... 'cause that's the one she bought. I can't seem to load the link.
Yes, that's the one I bought! And no, it's not available anywhere for any less. I think it started out at $75. Even Amazon had a hard time getting their mitts on it, and almost canceled my order. But I got a shipment notification last week so I should be getting it soon!
