Let's Just Face it.....writing is addicting discussion

Just today I was sitting on the bus, thinking about Daniel's day yesterday (being stuck in this elevator), and I started thinking about blowing up a bathroom. Setting fire to toilets, and smashing mirrors and stuff, and then when I started writing the new chapter that's what appeared.

And then this other time, I felt really, REALLY depressed, almost suicidal. I went home and starting the next chapter for Reawakened Soul, and he was trying to commit suicide!

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

It depends. Though I do feel like my roleplay character Jett is the dark side of me which is really depressing when you think about it.

No really, I completely understand. Though idk, I often try to incorporate some of myself or someone ik into the characters, so that might be why....

my characters are really similar to me, and i find myself doing the same thing as them a lot! but no, not as much as wanting suicide XD veronica =P

I was thinking like this one character,Sean, today. He's a very deep thinker he can probably rant about a small topic for atleast 6 to 8 sentences. He is also suicidal and comes up with insane and strange ways to hurt himself.

Oh and I have more power over my characters than my characters have on me (usually)

this happens to me all the time!!!!!! my characters will be all craxy and hyper, or if I was angry that day i would come home and write and then my charrie knocked out a police officer, and then took his gun and then he shot someone

Wow, so I'm not alone on this. Okay, good, 'cause people always give me these weird looks when I say something random like, "No Daniel. I can't believe you did that."

Then they ask you who "Daniel" is, and you tell them it's a character from your book.

Then they just stare at you for a really long time....

my characters are kinda like me. sarcastic, but likes to talk to people. except im a LOT meaner to my friends. itd kinda suck 2 b mean 2 ppl i dont kno on here. tht doesnt make sense but watev. its wat my character would do...

I want to post my story on Goodreads but 1. its not done and 2. i don't want to post it until I have the major ending desisions decided.

I find my characters taking over my mind, my fingers, and my keyboard, as I write...does that count?

yes this happens to me all the time dee! I thought three of my really tiny characters pushed their way through my mind while i was writing and became the main characters!

Sir Lot does that, a lot. He is the original "bad boy!"

I have this one demon who has now suddenly become a major character in my story!! He doesn't even have a name yet!!!!

I just cut 20,000 words of Lot and Morgause's back story out of the second novel. It was difficult, and now I know he is going to retaliate. I hate it when a character "gets back" at me for cutting his scenes. Sigh.

In my story, there is a character that is supposebly some big mass murderer (wich she is not) and ends up joining the heroes, but now in it, most of them hate her, and I am too! But is weird because she's the coolest one and I love her!

j.k. rowling cried when she killed off sirius, y'know... said in an interview... but geez, she better have cuz that was one of the most cruel and heartless killings in any book- sirius was awesome!!!!
anyway, good luck getting over the crippling depression of having ruthlessly killed three terrific characters.....

well you could do one of those "d'oh! it was all just a dream!" things, but they're annoying as....something veeeery annoying...

Hey SBG I understand how you feel. The loss of a good friend is never easy(and lets be honest, all of our characters are good friends, even the bad guys).

If you really can't get the character out of your head...perhaps you can use him in flash-backs to move your story forward. For as long as we remember someone, they never truly die :]

It is a good solution SBG...and not nearly as cheesy as a bringing back the characters to life :]

Well...there is always the other alternative...
Go back and rewrite you story!

I have done that before. It is a pain...but if you really feel that your story "needs" at least one of the characters, go back and re-write that characters fate [just be sure you let him or her know that you are giving them a second chance, so they better not mess up :].

It is the beauty of writing :]
