What are you reading right now?

I'm trying to catch up with the release dates of the books. Right now I'm on TNG: Indistinguishable from Magic by David A McIntee.

Kathy | 18 comments I just went back into time and read DS9: Blood Letter. Bit of a dud in my eyes

At the urging of Miss Andrea, I am reading the Destiny series and enjoying it thoroughly.

Currently reading the first Department of Temporal Investigations book "Watching the Clock" by Christopher L Bennett. It was next in my TBR pile, plus I want to read it before I read our scheduled book :-)

Kathleen Jerome (katjerome) | 16 comments I LOVED Indistinguishable From Magic! LaFOrge and Scotty- yeah! One of my favorites:) The whole idea of new technology seeming magical is such an intriguing idea.

Kathleen Jerome (katjerome) | 16 comments I am currently reading Vendetta by Peter David in the TNG series. Pretty good so far. As a teacher I feel the need to grade everything- so I would say an A-. Lots of Guinan, the Borg, Commander SHelby and the Doomsday Machine.

Hattie (hattie-mae) | 6 comments I just bought "Watching the clock" and " Blind Mans Bluff", and I can' wait to read them!!!

That book is crazy. It was one of my favorites years ago when it first came out.

Gonna start digging in to our June pick: Forgotten Histories! I enjoyed the first, but have gotten mixed reviews on this one. Wait and see I guess.

I LOVED Indistinguishable...! I wish I could "unread" it so I could read it again! lol

Kathleen Jerome (katjerome) | 16 comments I am starting Forgotten History. I have never read anything in the DTI series but I'm sure it will be fine, right? I am such chronologically-oriented nerd :)I never skip stuff! lol

I was okay when I read it and didn't read the first DTI book. It does help if you know the TOS cast.

I'm like you Kathleen, I was reading the books in order! This has thrown a wrench in my plan. That said, the way the first book happened I think Forgotten History should be okay to get into.

About to dive into "Typhon Pact: Struggle Within" by Christopher L Bennett. I've heard it's pretty good, so I'll see how it compares to Forgotten History.

Just realised my last two Trek books were by him as well. Huh.

message 17: by Ben (new)

Ben Guilfoy | 33 comments I'm halfway through this 'Destiny' omnibus (which is huge... really friggin' huge). Can't put it down.

message 18: by Thais (new)

Thais (perspektivo) I'm currently reading Diane Duane's "Dark Mirror". I've only just picked it up, but the plot overview seemed really interesting.

message 19: by Ben (new)

Ben Guilfoy | 33 comments That one's a lot of fun! It's very different from where the 'Deep Space Nine' TV series ended up going with the Mirror Universe.

message 20: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 18 comments Trying to decide which book will be my next Star Trek book. Most likely it will be a trivia book or a TNG book that is sitting on my shelf.

After finishing Plagues of Dawn, I figured I need something not so heavy. I'd skipped Voyager: Children of the Storm so that I could keep up with the group, so now I've gone back to read it.

I love Kirsten Beyer's books, and so far I'm devouring this one! :-)

About to dig into Typhon Pact: Raise the Dawn. Hopefully it won't take me as long to get through as Plagues of Night.

Started reading the first Mirror Universe short story collection, Glass Empires. Pretty good so far!

I'm reading it on my Kobo, and I think there's a glitch in the ebook formatting. The Spock story came first and is really choppy, and it seems to have spoiled some of the Enterprise story (though I'm not done that one, so not sure yet).

Mathew Smith | 15 comments Recently read, Relics by Michael Jan Friedman .
Picked it up at an auction for almost nothing. I've really enjoyed all of the Michael Friedman books I've read, so I thought I'd give it a go. Was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

Here is my blog entry on it, if anyone is interested... http://bookwormsfeastofbooks.blogspot...

About to dig into Voyager: Eternal Tide by Kirsten Beyer.

I've loved the Voyager books by Beyer so far. Plus Janeway is on the cover - yay!

Dan (kertrats) | 40 comments Burning through Cold Equations, Book II: Silent Weapons by David Mack. Loving it so far! The political intrigue and conspiracies make it feel like a very expansive story. Enjoying the hell out of it!

There's an expanded edition of the Spock story, Sorrows of Empire. I really recommend it!

I've got it on my shelf. Unfortunately of the three stories in Glass Empires, that was my least favourite, which surprised me because I love David Mack's stuff.

message 29: by Mathew (new)

Mathew Smith | 15 comments I read Physics of Star Trek a couple of years ago and would recommend it if you are in a Star Trek mood, but, for some reason want to read non-fiction.

The book takes a look at the science in Star Trek and if any of it is possible. Things like Warp speed, Transporters, Photon Torpedos, etc.
I was kind of shocked to find that almost everything in Star Trek is, in theory, possible...or at least not impossible (since there are a lot of things we don't know about deep space).
The only thing that did not seem possible - aliens all looking human like and speaking in English...but, that's kind of a running joke already eh?

Corona (Star Trek, #15) by Greg Bear I was lucky enough to buy a lot of the original series novels from my library this past Summer.

I really liked
Immortal Coil, mostly because I'm a fan of Data...and of course all robots.

The beginning reminds me of Men In Black; replace problems with aliens with problems with time. I am a fan of revisiting past events and the aftermath

Totally felt like MIB for me too!

I'm just diving into TNG Cold Equations Book 1. I'm only 50 pages in, but I get the feeling one of my favourite characters may die.... gulp!

Started TNG Cold Equations 2 this weekend. Only about 50 pages in, but enjoying it so far.

Will get my thoughts on book 1 up sometime this week.

message 39: by David (new)

David (daviz) | 65 comments During the last couple of weeks I've finished reading 'Sacrifices of War' (Star Trek: Errand of Fury, #3), 'Gods of Night' (Star Trek: Destiny #1) & 'Echoes and Refractions' (Star Trek: Myriad Universes, #2).

I've just started 'Mere Mortals' (Star Trek: Destiny #2) as well as 'Infinity's Prism' (Star Trek: Myriad Universes, #1).

These Myriad Universes books are great but it takes some getting used to - especially when you are reading the more "Normal" timeline stories! Nevertheless I liked the book very much! It was my first experience of "Alternate Universes" in print! I'd seen a few episodes on TV, especially in DS9 but I'd never actually read one before.

All these books I've got from my local library. I have a whole shelf full of Star Trek books at home. I've been a member of BookMooch for a number of years now & have quite a collection!

Kathleen Jerome (katjerome) | 16 comments Has anyone read the Double Helix series? I'm loving it! I love how the 6 novels include Picard, Pulaski, Crusher, McCoy, Spock, The Maquis, and Gul Dukat. I've finished the first book and halfway through the second. I think this is going to be a favorite:).

message 41: by Dan (last edited Jan 19, 2013 09:52PM) (new)

Dan (kertrats) | 40 comments I remember reading the first Double Helix book a long time ago. For some reason I never finished that series... I should add those to my list to read sometime in the near future.

Yesterday, I read the first novella in the SCE series, The Belly of the Beast, after having the series recommended to me by multiple people. It was pretty good, I'm looking forward to continuing it in the future!

Right now, I'm reading an oldie: from 1984, The Vulcan Academy Murders by Jean Lorrah. Enjoying it so far. It has some pretty interesting insights into the Vulcan culture.

message 42: by Dan (new)

Dan (kertrats) | 40 comments David - I just published my review of Sacrifices of War the other day! Check it out to see if it jives with your opinion about the novel and the series, I'd appreciate the feedback! Here's the link.

David (daviz) | 65 comments Thanks, Dan. I'll have a look at it later in the day when I have a little more time.

message 44: by Eric (new)

Eric (ericcumbee) | 2 comments I've been on a ds9 kick I just finished reading the millennium trilogy last week and am now on mission gamma book 1

message 45: by Dan (new)

Dan (kertrats) | 40 comments Finished the SCE novellas Fatal Error, Hard Crash, and Interphase, Part One the other day, and I'm two chapters shy of finishing the first book in the 9-book A Time to... series, A Time to Be Born by John Vornholt. Unfortunately, I left it out in the car, and it's bloody cold out! So I'll be digging into Interphase, Part Two before I finish that.

message 46: by David (new)

David (daviz) | 65 comments I finished reading 'Lost souls' this morning, the final book of the three that comprise the "Destiny" series.

I took it back to the library this morning & went to pick up the 3 I'd ordered & which had arrived & were waiting for me.

Much to my surprise I now find that another author has written a book which continues where 'Lost Souls' finishes! So that will be the first of the three books I will start reading. I'll begin it tonight when I'm in bed, if I can keep my eyes open long enough as I've been awake since 3am today! My wife had great difficulty in breathing so she got up as she told me she had seen all the hours of the night.

message 47: by Dan (new)

Dan (kertrats) | 40 comments David -Are you talking about "A Singular Destiny" by Keith DeCandido? Great novel, and sets up the Typhon Pact storyline that follows. I really enjoyed that one.

I hope your wife is doing okay!

message 48: by David (last edited Feb 03, 2013 06:18AM) (new)

David (daviz) | 65 comments Hi Dan, yes, that's the book. I did get to read the first chapter last night before my eyes got too heavy!

My wife felt better during the day, thanks. :-)) Her nose was so stuffed up she found it difficult to breathe but during the day she was much better.

I got the first of The Titan series,Sword of Damocles, as well yesterday.

I also got one on Deep Space 9, 'These Haunted Seas'. It's a much bigger book than I was expecting!

I've not finished 'Wounds' yet. I renewed it yesterday so I have the rest of the month in which to finish it.

message 49: by Dan (new)

Dan (kertrats) | 40 comments Actually, Sword of Damocles is the fourth Titan novel. It is preceded by Taking Wing, The Red King, and Orion's Hounds. These Haunted Seas is an omnibus of four DS9 relaunch novels, the four books of the Mission Gamma miniseries, which accounts for its size. I loved the DS9 relaunch! Have you read the first few books in the series already? It starts with a duology entitled Avatar. However, there is an omnibus that bundles it with the rest of the DS9 relaunch novels that precede These Haunted Seas. I believe it is called Twist of Faith.

Enjoy your reading! I love most of the Trek novels set in the later continuity.

message 50: by David (new)

David (daviz) | 65 comments Thanks for that correction, Dan! I thought it was the first!

I've read some DS9 books but not in any order. I just read them when I can get hold of them! Most of my Star Trek books have come through BookMooch. I have a shelf full of books awaiting someone to ask for one! In fact I have one I must send in a day or two to a Moocher, 'The Lost Years' a TOS novel.

Just recently my local library has had a lot of them in. I thought I'd finished their stock of SciFi books, at any rate those that interested me. I now search their online catalogue & have found there are quite a few available. I ordered some a week or two ago. That's how I came to have 3 waiting for me on Saturday.

Do you know of anybody willing to swap books (ST ones of course!)I looked at Andrea's photos of books & thought how similar it looks to my bookshelf!
