Meghan Doidge | 84 comments I have my book, After The Virus, a post-apocalyptic love story, available now for reviews ... I am bring out a new cover, and slightly edited text for the print version in June.

I am also launching a new fantasy/paranormal series in mid-May beginning with my book Spirit Binder and it's sequel the YA, Time Walker. I was hoping to organize a blog tour to promote it as well.

You can find more info about me (and my writing, etc) over at my blog: http://www.madebymeghan.ca

I would be happy to do interviews or giveaways (especially to promote the print version of After The Virus in June), but would be also very happy with more reviews.

I can make the new novel available as an ARC at the beginning of May as well.

Thanks all!

Eliabeth Hawthorne (eliahawthorne) | 34 comments Celine wrote: "Is it better protocol for authors to contact book review bloggers about interviews, etc., than the other way around? I'm so overwhelmed by all the social media sites that it confuses me on how to p..."

It's my experience that it's best practice for the authors to contact bloggers because they want their book presented in a certain way. A YA writer is not going to want their book on a blog that highlights erotica, however if a blogger is interested enough to reach out to the author, sometimes that's just as valuable because the blogger is more likely to write a good review if they're already interested than if the author contacts them out of the blue.

message 24: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Matthews (celinechatillon_cynthianna) | 74 comments Yeah, that's my take on it, Elizabeth. If an author out of the blue is out asking for book reviews/interviews all the time, he/she comes across as "desperate". I don't want to be thought of as "desperate" by anyone, but in the last decade, the number of online book review sites/blogs has soared but the number of actual decent reviews I've received has dwindled. My publishers are more willing to provide review copies to legit sites, but none are biting it seems. I understand there is a glut of "free ebooks" out there now. Does that explain it? Are the reviewers being overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of books in the marketplace?

Possibly, and the better review sites are backlogged. There's also people who will only review paperbacks because they don't want to sit at the computer when they read and the blogs they run have the traffic that they can get away with it.

I've never tried out of the blue asking for reviews (mind you our book just launched in March). We were "trained" if you will to run promotions and blog tours to make the reviews time sensitive and part of an event. While my coauthor and I do take reviews upon request, we're more likely to accept books as part of a blog tour, especially a publicized one for a couple of reasons.

1. If it's part of a blog tour, the chance of the author promoting your blog and driving traffic to your site is higher than an unrelated review request

2. There's work that goes into blog tours. An author willing to work to put a blog tour together, have a good cover, design graphics, etc. is more likely to have spent time and money developing the book as opposed to someone who woke up one day and decided they wanted to be an author.

3. Sometimes there are incentives. When we ran our blog tour, we had gift cards that we gave away to high traffic blogs and a random commenter to encourage engagement. That also ties into 2, because if you're spending money rather than just asking for a free review, there's an assumption (at least for me) that you spent money on the book as well.

Rachel Wu (rachelmmarks) | 3 comments Hey! I happened to notice your last three threads and I thought I would chime in. I organize blog tours, so if you have any questions regarding what is involved please feel free to message me.

message 27: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Matthews (celinechatillon_cynthianna) | 74 comments I've never done a "blog tour" but I have done a "blog hop" and it was fun I thought. It just seems the playing field as changed a lot online since 1999 when I sold my first book.

Kimberly Chapman | 146 comments Hi, I've found several Romance/Paranormal Romance review sites for my latest release Finding Gaia, but it also skews to the nerdy/science side with an environmentalist subtheme.

So if anyone out there has a blog that includes book reviews and has a theme of geek/nerd culture (particularly geek girl blogs), environmental activism, or eco-friendly living, please let me know!
