Because Ana's journey involves her soul (or lack thereof), let's begin with this: What is a soul?

Alexis Zaragoza | 3 comments "The soul – in many traditional spiritual, philosophical, and psychological traditions – is the incorporeal (and immortal) essence of a person, living thing, or object. Some belief systems (including the Abrahamic religions) argue that only human beings have souls and therefore that among the biological organisms of the Earth only they possess immortality and the possibility of union with the divine. In contrast others (such as Jains) believe that all biological organisms have souls, and others further still that even non-biological entities (such as rivers and mountains) possess souls. This latter belief is called animism.

Soul can function as a synonym for spirit, mind or self; scientific works, in particular, often consider 'soul' as a synonym for 'mind'." -Found on Wikepedia.

There are many ways to look at the word "soul". It depends on your imagination, your thinking process, and how you look at the world and yourself. You can see it as a white light, a golden ribbon lying in your body, or something completely wild. Some may think that they are simply a soul using a body. To me, a soul changes definition every time I read a certain book, write a different story, and change my perspective. But I would say that a soul is you. Not what you look like, or even your personality, but what you truly are. That deep part of yourself that you may not even see yet. A soul is who you really are, not the facade.

In this book, a soul is similar, but reincarnating every time the body dies. It can be in a different body each time, but the soul stays the same.

Haven Angel i like how you descibe it Ale

i agree
even though i havnt read the book yet i think ill try answer the question

well to me a soul is a being and also just nothingness like yin and yang its there and not there
a soul is what you decide it should be
wether a butterfly or a gohst or whatever
it takes the shape you dicide
its a manifestation of what we belive in and whats in out hearts
somthing that can give us courage and hope without us even nowing
in a way its kind of like a constant companion

well thats my explination of it, of sorts

Haylee (hayleea) One of my favorite authors once described it as, "You don't have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body." - C.S. Lewis. I personally agree with both of you saying that the soul is who you truly are, and that the body is a mere vessel. Anyways, Haven I think your description of a soul is really beautiful.
