Stacey I'll be finishing up Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children today. Ready Player One is great, I'm really liking it! To finish the week it's going to be The Art of Fielding for bookclub.

Sam (ecowitch) | 157 comments I'm still reading The Vanishing Cyclist as I got distracted by another reading challenge over the weekend which this didn't fit into. But once I've finished that I'll be moving on to Wolf Hall and One Bad Twelve.

message 3: by Annika (new)

Annika I'm listening to Sizzling Sixteen. I haven't read one of hers in ages so I'm enjoying it. The narrator for her books is just awesome:) Also reading Shiver. It's okay. i think it could be about 50 pages shorter because there's quite a bit of repetition. Maybe it's because it's a YA? It's probably more fantasy than sci fi, but thought it could sort of kind of count towards this months read:)

message 4: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (caro7) I will finish She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb tonight, then most likely I'm going to read The Riverman: Ted Bundy and I Hunt for the Green River Killer.

The Art of Fielding was fantastic and I don't even like baseball!

Heather Doherty | 96 comments I'm finishing The Story of Beautiful Girl and starting either The Submission or Before I Go to Sleep.

message 7: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (gkonkler5) Finished listening to You Can't Drink All Day If You Don't Start in the Morning which was a hoot!

Working on Envy by Sandra Brown and liking it.

message 8: by Theresa (new)

Theresa I started Blackout yesterday as my sci fi choice, and I really like it so far. Yay! I was having a bit of a slump.

message 9: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 95 comments I am taking a break from the 50 Shades trilogy. Haven't decided if I will read book three yet. I'm reading the new Jodi Piccoult. I know I say every book will be my last but I keep reading them even though they have, to me, been downhill for about four or five books. However I did get at library so did not spend money. Progress. I don't honestly remember the last one of hers I liked. Anywhoo it's a fast read and I will say that I like that I always learn new things in her novels. Maybe that's why I keep reading.

message 10: by Annika (new)

Annika I appear to be in a slump. I just can't stick with a book. The latest that I've started is The Magician King. Hopefully this one will stick. Thank goodness for audiobooks or I would've have hardly made it through any books this year!

I just looked at your bookshelf (we are 76% similar in our tastes) and I have a few recommendations to bust your slump. You might enjoy Last Night in Twisted River, The Night Circus, and 11/22/63. I also recently discovered Noah Gordon who has written some excellent historical fiction. I particularly liked The Last Jew.

Theresa Blackout started out well, but now it seems to be taking forever to actually get to something in the plot. All these historians are out there time traveling and still no hint that there will be anything more than this.

So the slump kind of continues, and it has spread into other areas, too. I can't find any shoes that I like, that fit, and I can afford!

I adored The Magician King--just as much as The Magicians. I hope you love it just as much. :)

message 14: by JZ (new)

JZ NJ (jznj) A friend, avid reader, just got out of reading slump with The Language of Flowers- easy to read - page turner.

message 15: by Annika (new)

Annika thanks for the suggestions, Heather! I'm hoping that The Magician King will help get me out of this ridiculous slump!

TK - so sorry it's transferring to shoes! The horror!:)

JZ-I'll have to give Language of Flowers a try.

I just started to read The Beginner's Goodbye. I just went on an unsuccessful shoe shopping trip. I am really considering buying a pair or two online.

Annika, I liked The Language of Flowers, so I'll second JZ's suggestion. And the shoe thing is becoming a full-blown horror!

Carol, my bad luck extended to online purchases as well. I violated my rule about not paying shipping for shoes, a wild indulgence, and ended up with two pairs that didn't work. One pair arrived damaged (the last in my size) and the other didn't turn out to look so nice in real life. Heavy sigh.

message 19: by Liz (new)

Liz I just finished Sonoma Rose which I really enjoyed. Although I think listing it as an Elm Creek Quilts book is a bit misleading. None of the characters had any connection to Elm Creek that I could see. There was a bit of quilting, but still.... Anyway, living here in Sonoma County (Santa Rosa) definitely enhanced my enjoyment. In her acknowledgements I see that she used one of our local treasures, Gaye LeBaron, as a historical reference. I'm now reading Come and Find Me.

message 20: by JZ (new)

JZ NJ (jznj) Read My Extraordinary Ordinary Life in day an half, it's a gift to my mother in law, and wanted to be sure there weren't any surprises.
It's a light, breezy, maybe "sugar coated" bio. A lot of minutia!

message 21: by Laurel (new)

Laurel (laureljean) Reading Moonlight Mile by Dennis Lehane. I've waited for this book for a long time. Still listening to Defending Jacob and finishing up with Ender's Game.
