Okay, i am getting vibes that this group is on the verge of Boring, so i want you to suggest things to spice up this group a bit! :D

How about a thread where we all participate in writing something? A group story or poem or tale or verse.

message 3: by Linda (new)

Linda (lindacee) | 130 comments Julius' idea sounds interesting!

Hmm, I'll brainstorm and see what I can come up with!

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) I like the group story, though we may find each other competing for the next chapter... Easily worked out.

I'll brainstorm too.

Am I wrong, or does it seem that most of the group members are two generations younger than I am?

:D
How about we do them all? (suggestion)

Well, should the group story be fantasy? :) OR some other genre, perhaps?
What should the starting settings be? A jungle? The half-destroyed ruins of a palace or village?

The whole group should enjoy it. How about in the group story, we all add a bit, whether a short paragraph or a line or two, but all the pieces have to fit in together. You guys can be the creators of your own characters, seeing as how you probs all have your own ideas about characters, lol.

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) So, kind of like a Thieves' World Goodreads style?

message 11: by The Pirate Ghost (last edited Apr 30, 2012 06:12AM) (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) I suggestion...there is a lot of dicussion about "what are you working on now... generally, I think people may be reluctant to talk about current works in progress.

Rather that what character are you working on, maybe a thread about character development, working in complicated issues. There's a lot of youth here, maybe discussion about what is, and is not (or should not be) considered YA? Just a thought.

What do people think about, like/don't like, working in more current themes like racism, and relationship stuff. (that may be a cluster of threads, but, you get the idea.)

I would be happy to help with a writing competition. I've served as a judge for regional & national competitions many times.

One kind of competition that was always interesting was the "hook" competition. Instead of focusing on a particular genre (which would leave out people who aren't interested in that genre), we could ask people to submit the first 250 (or 350 or 500) words & have a couple of judges from other groups. Maybe we could find 3-5 authors on Goodreads who would contribute copies of their books for prizes. Or even first chapter critiques as 1st prize.

Let me know if I can help.

I think that might be a more helpful suggestion than what i had. But how would one go about getting the book to them? Post?

message 20: by Peg (new)

Peg (pegrobarchek) | 15 comments They could be mailed or the authors could order & have them sent via Amazon or could provide them as ebooks -- whatever the winner wanted, I suppose.

T. Johnston What if there was a way to mentor writers with other authors or something like that. So that they could get published easier or something.

Phoebe (theneveronlinechick) | 3313 comments Mod
By mentor, you mean advice and stuff, right? :)

O.o

message 25: by T. (new)

T. Johnston No we could try and get authors who have been publish and see they would be willing to help and make others a better writer or something like that. Advice is good too, but I thought it might help hearing from other who been published to help the rest of us. Maybe they would know things that we may not. It's just something I thought might help. Or we could offer group book writig. Where two people can write together on a book. Things like that.

Hey, how about we have a Challetnge-The-Mod competition? I just thought of it then. :P

It's when a not-a-mod can challenge a Mod to their role as mod. This means that, if the mod loses, they get removed as a mod and the victor will Mod in his/her place.

Writing competitions are a great idea. Each month we could have a poll with different themes and people could vote on the theme of the month. Some people can be shy so it could be anonymous,I.e the story gets sent to a mod and the mod posts the story but the mod will know who's the story is,a poll could be done to decide that too.

First off.I'm making a map of the group with links after I've finished sorting all the folders.I'll do it tomorrow as I'm going out tonight.
A masthead banner and new group picture that will look welcoming and may bring people back and attract new members.
Any ideas?

What does everyone think of the new look of our group?
As it's the Christmas season almost I thought we could make it look christmassy.
Do you like the group photo?
Your views matter.
Do you think the map of the group is a good idea?
I've put some Topics into Archive for now that aren't active.

I've never organized story comps before, just entered them but I'm sure we can work together on that Julius.
The thing is I'm going abroad for 10 days at the end of December so maybe we could get someone else to help you with the group while I'm away.I have to get someone for the other writing group too as I moderate solo.

That's great Jack.I'm glad you agree.Have a great day.
If we start them before the end of December and leave a couple of weeks before the winners decided in case anyone wants to enter.Hopefully we'll have a few willing members to take part by then as the group is just being revamped and hopefully it'll be more active again.
Maybe anonymous entries would be good. The entry gets sent to a mod by private message and the mod posts it on the thread.

What does everyone think to that idea?
