Sera Looks great, Kristi! Thanks so much.

Loretta (lorettalucia) Awesome, I'm excited!

I'm contemplating getting this one as audio, since I tend to do best with audiobooks for the super-long chunksters.

message 4: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) I was thinking the same thing Loretta! That's how I'm doing Angle of Repose, so it might be awesome to do both that way!

Anne | 137 comments I'm contemplating getting this one as audio, since I tend to do best with audiobooks for the super-long chunksters."

As a warning, the footnotes can cause the audio version to be very confusing. I haven't tried it myself, but I have heard complaints from several people who did (another group I'm in read this book just a month or two ago).

I read this book when it first came out and loved it. Hopefully I'll have time to read it again with the group. My memory of the plot is fairly hazy, but I remember loving the footnotes. They had a lot of interesting and/or amusing info in them.

I will be joining this but late as my boyfriend left our copy at his parent's house! I think I'll be able to catch up, will probably start at week 3. Looking forward to it, been wanting to read this for ages

Rosemary Got my copy!

Sera I'll be getting a late start. I'm reading this on Kindle so I'll have to get acquainted with jumping back and forth between the footnotes and the text.

Bookworm Adventure Girl (bookwormadventuregirl) I have a copy on my kindle and hope to participate. I am behind in Middlemarch and want to catch up before starting another chunky! Looking forward to the discussion.

Riona (rionafaith) I've had my copy sitting here unread for over a year now. I don't love reading footnotes on the kindle, so I'm glad I have a paperback of this one, even if it is massive.

Kristina (kristina3880) I have my copy and ready!!

Miranda I ordered my copy through paperbackswap, so I may be a little late starting. There are footnotes?! Yay! :D (I'm one of those weirdos who loves a good footnote or endnote!)

Loretta (lorettalucia) I've already started (so I hopefully won't fall behind!). The footnotes are substantial. I've gotten through the first chapter on audio, and didn't find the footnotes at all confusing on audio, so if anyone is considering reading it that way, I'd recommend it. I like the narrator too.

message 14: by Alex (new) - rated it 2 stars

Alex I've got mine ready to start. Hope I don't fall behind on this one like I have on the last couple I tried to join in with.

Juliette Started reading and I have to say I was really worried about the footnotes on the Kindle. This is the first book I've had with footnotes that allows the reader to click on the number of the footnote and it takes the reader to the info. Usually there are no notes to be found or I have to click back and forth from the point of where I was to a bookmark at the end of the book where all the footnote info it.
So, basically, if you're reading this on the Kindle, the footnotes aren't bad.

message 16: by Sera (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sera That's great to hear, Juliette. Thanks for letting us know. I was starting to get worried...

Becky I have never had a footnote that was missing the hyperlink, even in Discworld :)

Click on the footnote number and it should take your to the correct info, and then if you hit the back button, you'll be taken back to exactly the page you were on before. Handy.

I cant imagining trying to read a book where it was programmed differently. You had more patience that I would have, I dont know if I would have even bothered bookmarking it or just plowed through any ways, hehe.

Becky Also, the downsize to ramping up the font size- I feel like I've been reading for days and I'm still only on 1% ;)

Kristi (kristicoleman) Looks like this is going to be a great read! I started early as well, that way I can actually comment when I post the thread!

ayanami Got my copy from the library today. The illustrations are really lovely.

message 21: by Sera (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sera Thanks, Becky. That helps me very much, especially since I will be using my Kindle more and more for these types of reads.

Juliette Becky wrote: "I have never had a footnote that was missing the hyperlink, even in Discworld :)..."

It's mostly in the free classics.

Oh, that would make sense.

Izzy Holmes Got my copy in the post today can't remember the last book I read with footnotes. Looking forward to it.

Jackie I just read this book a couple of months ago and loved it. I'm looking forward to the discussion.

Deana (ablotial) Excited about starting this one!

MichelleCH (lalatina) | 41 comments Picked up this monster and am ready to go! Should have gotten it on my kindle because it is huge.

Tasha I'm excited to be doing a group read with the chunksters again and I'm so excited to read this book! I picked it up yesterday and will start this weekend.

Loretta (lorettalucia) Kristina, I think you meant to post this post in the discussion of Week 3, not the "Schedule" thread, so I'm going to delete it, as it contains mild spoilers. Sorry!

message 30: by Sera (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sera Finally! I've started it. On Chapter 3 and really enjoying it so far. Forgot that this was a footnote read, but no worries.

See you in the threads.

Andrea Just picked this up from the library and I got a hernia trying to get it to the car...hahaha Wow, what a BIG book!

Tasha A chunkster indeed!

message 33: by Sera (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sera Andrea, it's huge but reads quickly. I caught up in two weeks so I am sure that you won't have any issues doing the same. It's a fabulous read.

Riona (rionafaith) I got distracted by other books and ended up putting this down for over a month... oops. Anyway, I've picked it back up so I'm gonna try and catch up before it's over!

Deana (ablotial) riona, I did the same thing! I got distracted and put this one away as well. But I've picked it back up the last few days and got sucked back in. Hoping to add a few things to the comment threads here and there.

Andrea I returned this massive book to the library this weekend, after renewing it once I could not renew it again. I was starting to enjoy it though so I was not excited to part with the book and was going to buy it on my Nook. I went to grab an audio book for my commute and wouldn't you know this was the first one I saw! At 26 disc and 32+ hours I think I will be listening to this for the next month!!!

Books come in many forms, but they are all enjoyable and absolutely precious!

Andrea Agreed 100000000% :)

message 39: by Alex (new) - rated it 2 stars

Alex I got lost somewhere along the way with this - I think I just didn't get on well with dipping in and out of this book once a week. At some point I'll sit down and read the whole thing over a course of a few days.

message 40: by Andrea (new) - added it

Andrea If you can read this book in just a few days you will deserve an award...lol It is CRAZY big and long...lol

message 41: by Alex (new) - rated it 2 stars

Alex I just read a 900 page book in three days, I'm a fast reader when I need to be!

Tasha wow!

Becky Thats like my husband. He is a super fast reader, and I'm always so jealous. I'm just dedicated, not that I am particularly slow, but I could never read 900 pages in 3 days. Also, my dogs would probably stage a coup if I tried too.

Tasha I hear you! My dogs, kids AND husband would have a fit! :)

message 45: by Andrea (new) - added it

Andrea Wow, that's amazing Zee!

Stephanie i remember when i used to read 900 page books in 3 days...sigh, college...how i miss you and didn't realize how glorious you were...

zee, you have now made me have a goal, bring back college-paced reading to my life!!! thanks!!! :D

message 47: by Andrea (new) - added it

Andrea I ended up returning this to the library. It was really fun but I felt like the story kept jumping around and for whatever reason I was having a hard time following.

Alana (alanasbooks) | 456 comments I'm way late to this party, but it looks like such an interesting book that I'd never heard of before, so I think it will be my new audio listen (since I've given up audio for Ulysses). Wow, but it's a whopper of a book, though!
