The 1700-1939 Book Club! discussion

This is for the discussion of Daniel Deronda by George Eliot (Ch. 1-20).

I started reading this book awhile ago but never got to far because of other obligations so I am excited to start again! I just wanted to let everyone know one thing before they begin because I was confused with the time line the first time.

"The first part of the book is the meeting of Daniel Deronda and Gwendolen Harleth in the fictional town of Leubronn, Germany. After the plot breaks off into two separate flashbacks, one which gives the history of Gwendolen Harleth and one of Daniel Deronda."

I hope this helps! I should be starting this weekend and I will let you know which chapters are the flashbacks.

Here is the time line for chapters 1-20.

Ch. 1&2: This is the beginning of the story in the present time. Gwendolen and Daniel are in Leubronn.

Ch. 3-14: These chapters go into Gwendolen's past. They explain events starting a year before Gwendolen goes to Leubronn.

Ch. 15: Goes back to the present time. Gwendolen is leaving Leubronn to go back to England.

Ch. 16-20: These chapters go into Daniel's past from a child until he leaves for Leubronn.

Chapter 21 continues with the present time and I am guessing the book continues without any other flashback chapters. If so I will let you know.
