May 1 - 2001 A Year Down Yonder

I guess if we don't get any more feedback about this let's proceed as planned with the list above . . . see you all on Feb 1.

Wendy | 41 comments I know it's all going-out-of-order and everything, but I think it would be fun to put in the newly-named Newbery for, maybe, the March discussion (read in February). What do you think?

message 3: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 60 comments I own almost all the books from 1922-2003 and don't plan to buy any more once I fill in the gaps. How soon do you think the new winners will be available at libraries? I'm still on the waiting list for Despereaux, probably because of the movie.

message 4: by Wendy (new)

Wendy | 41 comments That will depend a lot on what the winner is--if it's something popular, many libraries will already have multiple copies.

love to - my only hesitation is how hard it might be to get a hold of the book the very next month, my local library is not known for having everything on hand. Although I imagine they likely already have a copy of it - I'll just request one as soon as the announcement is made. The new schedule:

Feb 1 - 2004 Tale of Despereaux
Mar 1 - 2009 ?
Apr 1 - 2003 Crispin
May 1 - 2002 A Single Shard
Jun 1 - 2001 A Year Down Yonder
Jul 1 - 2000 Bud, Not Buddy

Liz (hissheep) Tale of Despereaux - a wonderful story, which led me to read the author's other children's books! Cannot wait to see the movie ...

Dawn | 66 comments I'm also concerned about getting a library copy so soon after the new one is announced. Could we postpone it a month or two? If some people get to read it earlier, no problem, they'll just have an easy month before we discuss it.

Wendy | 41 comments How about June?

Dawn | 66 comments Fine with me, anyone else?

comments on how this has gone so far? I definitely slacked off during tax season when I was working. Is this something worth continuing? If so, we need to pick a new book to read for this month and begin discussing on August 1.

Annette (noblegirl) | 49 comments Did we discuss Bud, Not Buddy? If we did I missed it and that is one of my favorites!
To answer your question, Kristine, even though I'm not very consistent with reading and commenting on all of the books, I do read and enjoy other people's comments, so I think that it's worth continuing.

message 13: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 66 comments We are supposed to be discussing Bud, Not Buddy right now. I'd love to hear your comments, Annette! I read it because you chose it for book club three years ago. I liked it, too.

Kristine, I'd like the Newbery group to keep going, but I agree that not much has been happening on the site. I was disappointed not to have more discussion on our last book, The Graveyard. I was hoping that it would spark more interest since it is new, at least. Should we just keep going backwards?

kathy mentioned that newbery book club group. do you think we should all just move over there?

message 15: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 60 comments We're 4 times bigger, started sooner, and have more people who have actually posted. Wouldn't it be easier if they joined us? There is enough cyberspace for both and it's easy enough to read all reviews without joining. I emailed the moderator to let her know we existed (not exactly an invitation). Kristen, from Austin, TX is a member of both. What is her opinion and what is our moderator's opinion?

I think they should both continue just like they have been. I joined the other group after this one, since they are including honor books. That’s why they are both great, because they are different, even though it’s the same book pile.

If both book groups ran the same way, it wouldn't be fun anymore.

ok, let's continue, then. let's take this month off (obviously since we didn't pick a book to discuss for aug 1) and continue like this:

discuss:
sep1 - 1999 holes
oct1 - 1998 out of the dust
nov1 - 1997 the view from saturday
dec1 - 1996 the midwifes apprentice
