I'm fairly new to goodreads. As to your question on four legged friends in stories, Mackenzie. In a contemporary WIP I have one. In my paranormal fantasy it's an underwater world (shifting tiger sharks, whales, dolphins) the children have turtles as pets. Ironic I know.
I personally have a German shephard that has no idea he's a dog.

Hi Cora,
Wow on the underwater world paranormal. Dagger, right? It sounds fascinating. What a unique premise.
And I once had a German Shepherd (best dog ever) who thought people were put on the earth just to play ball with her. Some of her traits have appeared in my animal characters.

Gunther can tell by the type of shoes you put on if he's going out side. Spooky.
Thanks on Dagger. I got the idea from watching the one koi dominate the others in my pond in the back yard and my love of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.
But yes I try to have pets in my stories.

In reality I have had several astounding pets. Here is a short list.
3. A cat that would make me baby sit her kittens while she went about her daily business from the time they were 3 days old.
2. A Minx that would hunt for my hunting hound and exchange him the catch for the right to make a bed on his side and bask in the sun.
1. A Pomeranian that without training I could tell go get me a clean pair of socks (as well as other items) and he would always return with the right item.
I believe that animals can have developed personalities and become strong characters in a story.

I love all things Louisiana and most things Florida: food, music, history, arts, outdoors. Our profile pic was taken by my stepson while Vikki and I drank white wine sangria at the Columbia Restaurant of St. Augustine, Florida.
I'm also a big fan of Georgia, Savannah and especially Atlanta. If you've never been to Little Five Points in Atlanta, you don't know that wonderful city.
I have no children of my own, but Vikki gave me three as a wedding present. Also four cats and a dog. Maggie is loving and enthusiastic, but not too bright. Her only real skill is looking after the cats. She mothered the ones who came to us as kittens and guards the outside cat from feline bullies. she pads through the house all day, checking to see that the cats are where they are supposed to be and that Mommie and Daddy* are safe, too.

I live in Michigan. I'm going to my first book expo today, so I'm certain to find many authors with four legged character in their stories.
Everyone have a great day.

LOL on recognizing the type of shoes. Gunther sounds spooky AND smart.

Hi Brian.
Sounds like you are a definite animal lover. I love your comment on the Minx. They are a fascinating breed. Several years ago we had a Minx mix come into our lives. DH rescued her from her life in a parking lot. She entertained us with her charming personality and hunting prowess. Oh, the stories I could tell. Unfortunately, with her feral streak, she was a wanderer and simply disappeared one day. We live on the edge of the desert and I fear she fell victim to the pack of coyotes we often hear celebrating a catch. DH insists she moved to Prescott AZ where the hunting is even better. ;-)

Hi John and Ms. Vikki. Best of luck on that sequel. Maggie sounds like a keeper. You've got to love a dog with a protective streak.

I LOVE meeting animal personalities in the books I read - but especially dogs. I own an ex-racing greyhound and the breed has found its way into both of my books so far. I can't help myself! :)

I feel the same way, LaVern. I've never known any greyhounds. I hear they are sweet, and very cool to look at.

I'm relatively new to Goodreads. Never started a Q&A before, but with so many talented authors and well read readers here, I couldn't resist picking your brains on this topic. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
