I think the week I am going to experience life without the tv on will start the Monday after the Super Bowl. I'll start a thread to talk about the experience..hope to get more reading, family activities completed during that week. Anyone else want to try it for that week. It's not cheating to dvr/tape shows for later that run that week. I'm not against tv or anything like that...I just want to see what a week would be like without the tube. I've enjoyed all the responses from others about how enjoyable it can be and I know from past experiences when we've stayed in national parks without the tv that we actually enjoyed the quiet. We will see. Hope others join and share their thoughts. The day after the Super Bowl is Monday, February 2nd. What do others think? I'll send reminders if others are interested.

Anne (annecurrin) | 17 comments I am game! Actually I have not watched "real" TV since July 2007. I didn't have cable hooked up when I moved during that time. I do watch movies, though. But will give those up the week of the 2nd.

Sounds great! We'll journal about the experience here as well. :)

Anne (annecurrin) | 17 comments Yep, hope I can get a lot of reading done that week. This is a great idea!!

Anne (annecurrin) | 17 comments You know what might be fun for another challenge? Giving up the internet (of course not for work purposes!) for a 24 hour period. No FB, no goodreads, no game playing, etc.....I am on that waaaay too much!!!

Anna (lilfox) | 53 comments For me giving up a tv for a week would be easy, cause I don't have a TV set at my apartament.

Cheryl (chaoscat60) | 37 comments I really don't watch tv. I'm way to busy or find more enjoyment in books. I record a couple shows and watch them when I iron every couple weeks.

S. Kay (cobwebs) Whoops, sorry, I jumped ship for a bit on accident.

I'm still in for no tv, of course. I do pretty much what Cheryl does, record anything I really want to see and watch while I'm working on a project.

Well, one more week...I'm actually still looking forward to a week of no tv. lol

Melissa Wiebe (melissawiebe80) Doesn't anybody find it ironic that the no TV week starts the day after the Superbowl, which is only the largest sporting event in North America?

message 12: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I'm so excited...one more week. Not that I watch much TV anyway. But oh well. Of course that will be the week that I have tons of free time to watch TV. I guess I'll read instead.

Cheryl (chaoscat60) | 37 comments Not that I like football but very good call!! A lot of the shows are reapeats then too!! I will do it, however I can't be away from it completly because I'm a caregiver and they have the tv on like 24/7-not giving up work for the week.

message 14: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I only tune into the Superbowl to watch the commercials. I'm really not into football, but everyone talks about the commercials; that's the team I root for every year.

I'm looking forward as well. It will be nice to be free of the tv--interesting to see what's different about the week.

Jim | 41 comments I can't say I'm giving up much since I only get 2 stations (no cable/satellite) and don't watch TV more than 3/4 hours/week
but I'm going to not watch and see what if any difference it makes
