Yes, you can claim him for a GRA ticket.

I have tried looking at the cover pictures they sometimes have on the catalog only to discover when I get the book that the cover is completely different.
When I go to the library all I see is rows of spines so I need to take the books out of the shelves to check the covers (you can't even judge the colour by the spine) which is time consuming and then when I finally find books with covers that satisfy the conditions I get them home to find the Australian covers are not on Goodreads and I have to start again.

What Dee said. It's not a big deal to add cover art or even another edition of a book! Go over to this thread: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/3... and you'll see a bunch of people asking the librarians in this group to update page numbers, cover art, add new editions, etc. If you can find a picture of your cover art on the internet and provide a link to it along with the ISBN, that's really all we need! Super simple!

Thanks

You can use the post # or the line number when it was approved. If you use a line number, I will at least know the general vicinity. Dealing with the ebook only posts is a lot of extra work, both in terms of the work DLMRose has to do in researching the books and in terms of verifying that the books have been approved, so we're trying to find some way to make this process less of a time consuming pain.

yes, if you start all over again, it's no different than a re-read, which is allowed unless a task specifically prohibits it.

No problem, Sandy. I just wanted to know which would be easier. I'll do whatever I will have to do to lessen the work for you guys!

Big Book tickets reward participants who read longer books with an opportunity to create a task. The idea here is that someone has done more than is required for the actual task, and to provide some incentive for people to read longer and more time consuming books.
If you feel that a book that meets the Big Book page limits has taken extra time and effort to read, then that book is worthy of that opportunity and you may elect to claim a ticket. Claiming Big Book tickets is optional.

I had someone wanting to use
The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle
for a 30.3 task. It does say YA lower down
on the genre list-- but it is mostly shelved as
a children's book.
What would be your ruling on this book?
Thanks for the help.

It's certainly a children's book, but I don't think it falls within the general SRC rule about "young reader books" - big print, big margins, simple vocabulary, early reader accomodations.
However, task creators can certainly limit the tasks beyond the general SRC rules, with requirements like "no rereads," and you are welcome to disallow the use of children's books for your task.
