She's a bit too whiny.
She depends on Jace's help a lot. Most of the time actually. (Unlike Tessa)
When Jace scolded her. (which I think what he says are true), Clary was upset. Whereas for Tessa. She challenged Will back.
'You are getting harder to tease, Tessa.' Will had said in Clockwork Prince.

I like Clary, but she can be pretty annoying. She is too dependent on Jace. I prefer Tessa.

Her logic is stupid! SPOILER FOR CoLS (view spoiler)[Someone please tell me I'm not the only one who thought she was insane when she woke up in Sebastian/Valentine's weird house thingy and decided the first thing to do was to take a shower!! Instead of you know maybe wondering where the HELL she was and look for someone else first, like Jace maybe. She so casually takes a shower and then goes through a wardrobe in someone else's room and just picks a random shirt and takes off the tag and wears it!!! WHO THE HELL DOES THAT?! You're in someone else's house (not to mention that someone is very creepy), you have no idea where you are and you think you have the right to wear someone else's clothing without any permission. My first reaction after waking up from passing out or whatever would be to go look for Jace and be like yo where the hell are we and what's the plan! (hide spoiler)]
Sorry for my weird and long rant I just don't get her.
BTW I haven't finished CoLS yet so please no spoilers or hide them in your comment like I did.

Why I find her annoying sometimes, not all the time

1.She betrayed Jace in COLS!
2.She was a total bitch to Jace in the first book, I would be a bitch too
3.She didn't realize or pretended not to notice how Simon felt about her.
4. She's to recklace at times, but thats what makes a good heroine:)

WHy I dont think shes annoying most of the time and the qualities that I like about her

1. She didn't straight out fall for Jace, maybe she did but at the begining she didnt show that she did
2. She loves manga
3. Likes Naruto
4. Watches anime with her bestfriend
5. Loves to draw
6. feels like she belongs to the supernatural

shes an okay charecter, shes just really bad compared to all the others

I so agree!! The COLS betrayal kinda pissed me off I was like O.O what!?!?! DON'T DO THAT!

I love Clary.I love Tessa a little more.Each character has there stengths and weaknesses.I can't think of many main characters that annoy me because if they do I usually stop reading the book.Scarlett form Gone with the Wind and Emma Woodhouse form Emma are they only ones that I still read even though I wanted to stangle them.

But then, most main characters annoy me. Dont get me wrong, i love the seris and everything but some of the characters really aggrivate me.Personally i waaay prefer Tessa to Clary.

She isn't annoying, she's better than Tessa! She can't choose which guy she wants I mean seriously, Will is so clearly better for her than Jem!

I dont dislike Clary I mean she has her moments when your like "WHAT NO" But, those moments where she almost ends up killing someone she usually ends up fixing it. her and jace both act on impulse as said in the book. I Love her and jace together. She can be very smart and have clever ways of coming up with plans.

What people seem to forget is that Tessa didn't do anything wrong, it's just that the timing sucked. She's actually a self less character, the main reason I think she's WAY better than Clary. I realized why I don't understand Clary's logic at all, it's because half the time she doesn't even think before she does things. She doesn't think of the consequences or how she might hurt other people in process of her decisions. She used her best friend as rebound when she so clearly knew he was in love with her!! So she basically used him for her comfort. How is that better than a girl who's done nothing so far to hurt another person?

But nobody really thinks about what they are about to do before they do it. Also I don't think of it as useing her friend as a re-bound, I think that she was trying to make him happy and give him what she wanted which makes her nice!

WOW! That is a horrible, horrible thing to do and I can not believe you just said that she's good for doing something like that! Fooling someone into thinking that you return their feelings, because you think it'll make them happy is not nice in any way!! You're basically lying to them. And to think she did that to her best friend, it really shows the kind of person she is. One I would not want to meet in real life.
Also about people not thinking before what they're about to do, first of all it's not the case with everyone, secondly just cause the majority of people were not fortunate enough to learn to think before they made decisions, doesn't make it right.

I want something bad to happen to her. Not fatally, I might add, but something serious like what happened to Jace. As for my opinion on Tessa, I am mad at her at the moment due to an ill-picking (haha sorry, bad joke) of guys.

I've never really been able to connect with Clary. Ever. From book 1 till now (COLS) I still can't stand her character. She's a whiny teenage girl who constantly complains and only does things for herself and herself alone. Oh, and Jace. Herself and Jace, which really if you think about it is for herself because Jace is basically what makes her happy, and if Clary's not happy, well then no one else can be either. Or at least, that's how she comes across to me.

Now there's such a thing as being rebellious or a little reckless at times, as people have been saying that's part of what makes a good heroine. And I actually can connect with that a little, a little bit of snap decisions and not wanting to listen to my parents, but the way Clary does it... It's not good. She only thinks about herself and in my opinion, she totally abused Simon and STILL abuses Simon by using his feelings for her (or now she uses their friendship) for him to do what she wants. Spoiler for COLS (view spoiler)[ Clary wants Simon to go through with her plan to see Jace and let HIM take the rap from her mother for it! I mean, I would never to that to a friend. Ever. Seriously! I don't think it was the right thing to do and I definitely don't think she did it very well and I can see why you think it as a bad thing but I can still see why she wanted to give Simon a chance and I dlon't think it was the right thing to do but still I can see why she did it, though I never would. The one thing I must say is that if she was going to do that to Simon she should have let her feelings go for Jace because that was cruel!

I find her stupid, ignorant, oblivious to the world, and, like you, impossible to connect to and believe in.

Clary isn't my favorite, but really all the stuff your getting annoyed at her for really never dawned on me at all. Some of you say she is reckless, thoughtless, and illogical, to me it seems more just like her being stubborn and determined not to be left behind. Yes some of her decisions are poor, and she acts immature sometimes, but her intentions have always been good. Stress that. And really, if she was perfect, and always did the right thing concerning Jace, Simon and Sebastian, I would would be absolutely driven insane with annoyance, because NO ONE is like that.
Clary is sometimes impulsive, and sometimes doesn't think of the consequences or the bigger picture, but she NEVER intentionally hurts someone and does what she can to try to keep her friends and Jace happy, 'cause honestly, why would she do otherwise?

I agree that she never intentionally hurt the people around her, I'm saying she's not smart enough to think of the consequences, thus ending up hurting people. But I guess that's how teenagers are portrayed in the media.

True, but she's been in school. At least she should have some common sense and think of the consequences of her doing. Not that her being a Shadowhunter for only 6 months affects anything.
If you say it is because of her world suddenly changing that her behaviour(or personality) is like that. Well..., Simon's life changes too...(and part of the reason is becuz of Clary)

Clary shouldn't be allowed on suicide missions like these- even though she only goes on them because she's not allowed to. Her plans suck. she'll end up destroying the world- just not in a cool way like Sebastian's.

I don't think she's that bad. Although when she continued to (view spoiler)[ ask Simon to come over after Jace was taken annoyed me. Plus, I'm sick of Simon being all over her. I wish he'd just stick to Isabelle. ISABELLE. Also, it surprised me when after Jace said he'd turn himself in that Clary called for Sebastian. Sure, I didn't want Jace to go and die because I love him but she just stripped him of the little piece of free will he was given for a short duration!!!! And how was she so calm after she went with Jace? When she gets up, she doesn't feel much hesitance to go and grab a shirt. I mean really? Okay, so she's not that great either, but sometimes I like her. Sometimes!

We didn't make her seems bad. We're just pointing them out. And she is, in fact, annoying.

I think that jace will stay with clary, but if she keeps her little 'screwing up the whole world' routine up, he's gonna die, and won't be staying with her forever.

I agree. Yes, she is rash and often does things selfishly but she's also human...partly, anyway. Besides, she has good points. Let's see...she ran into a hotel filled with vampires in order to save Simon, she destroyed the ship in COA and got rid of a lot of bad guys, she brought Jace back from the dead (I didn't want him to stay dead, he was my favorite character! And yeah, that did bring on the whole Sebastian possession but none of them could have known that!), she (view spoiler)[ stabbed Jace in order to hopefully rid him of the mark or kill him, so she ended up doing what she thought was right.
So, yeah, she ain't my favorite. She annoys me sometimes but I can't blame her 100%. All the characters made mistakes, hers just happened to be amplified a bit more due to power and selfishness. I still think only being a Shadowhunter for 6 months is a big part of it.... (hide spoiler)]

Okay. It's not that I hate Clary... I actually like her... but I think that she's really ignorant... she needs to learn that Jace isn't all that matters, that there is a whole world out there
