Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments This is the thread for the buddy read of A Tale of Two Cities. We are set to start around June 1st, the first week or so of June. Remember to use spoiler tags <spoiler> </spoiler> when using this thread to hide those (view spoiler) for others. There is no rush or time table, read at your pace and contribute to the discussion.
Please make sure when posting on this main thread to specify which book section you are in when you mention a chapter to avoid confusion. Remember page numbers are not the same for everyone.

To accommodate the speed of all readers, we plan to break it up into the three sections as set out in the book.
Book the First - Recalled to Life chapter 1 - 6
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9...
Book the Second - the Golden Thread chapter 1 - 24
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9...
Book the Third - the Track of the Storm 1 - 15
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9...
Please let us know if your edition has a different breakdown.
Spoilers are allowed within these sections, still be mindful of where others are and keep the discussion within that section.

For first timers to buddy reads, do not hesitate to ask questions about how things work or expectations. Those who have done many of these buddy reads will be glad to help.

Have fun, discuss difference, ask questions and enjoy!

Those currently signed up are: Catie, Hayes, Geevee, Kim, Marialyce, Laura, MichelleCH, Jemidar, Margaret, Jeannette, Dawn and Sylvia.

Thanks, Dawn! I will start this week. :)

Margaret | 173 comments Oops, I commented too late. That's fine the way it's set up though. Besides, I'm friends with enough people in this buddy read to message them (or you) with a "psst! have you finished chapter __ yet?" and then if so, knowing me I'll be wanting to talk about a certain character. Nothing endears me or fires me up quicker than a nice character or an evil one. LOL!

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments Margaret, we can still try to make a point to mention which chapter we are in or just finished and as always you can PM others to discuss certain matters.

Jeannette, you aiming for the 1st then?

Margaret | 173 comments I'll probably just comment as I finish each section the thread pertains to. But you, Jeannette and Hayes should watch your inboxes for those Psst! What chapter are you on? messages. ;-)

Margaret | 173 comments Maybe it could work. I could post in the thread it pertains to like this (eg):

I just finished chapter 2 (part one)

(view spoiler)

I was just having a hard time picturing every single post having a spoiler alert in it. But if every single person can agree to post like that: finished __ chapter and then the spoiler then it could work out and that way we won't risk clogging up the group with a gazillion different posts about ATo2C.

Like I said, at least for me, it is annoying after a while to keep hiding stuff. Sometimes I just put

**************SPOILER ALERT****************

in my post.

It will all work out; these things always seem to. I only caught one "accidental" spoiler in the entire 1200 pages of CoMC!

June 1st for me.

Marialyce I will be starting it then as well. I don't mind art all with the chapter alerts to just follow the dates and post the specific chapter I am commenting on. Thanks for setting this up!

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

That's a good idea to list the chapter at the beginning of a new post. That way whoever isn't in to that point can avoid the post.

I'm really looking forward to this read, and the discussion.

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments Don't forget to include which book section along with your chapter when posting in this main book thread. Just using chapters in the books section threads is fine since stating the book section would be redundant.

Margaret, as Jeannette said these tend to work themselves out, so no need to wait until you have finished a section before commenting. I pretty much make comments every day and of course PM's come in handy for those parts you want to get into more without having to worry about giving away spoilers.

I would like to add that this general thread tends to (and should be) abandoned once people start reading the book. It would get a bit confusing to actually discuss the book here, rather than/as well as in the other threads, too. (I hope that makes sense....)

Catie (gollywollypogs) | 53 comments I've started! Just read the first three chapters and nothing much has happened so no need for spoiler alerts just yet. Still, I'm under way...

Jemidar | 358 comments But it's not June yet...

Catie (gollywollypogs) | 53 comments oh but very nearly and I had a gap! Don't worry - I won't rush in too fast, just a chapter or two a day for now. Three might sound a lot but it's only 20 pages (of 412) in my old hardback...

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I guess you can post those threads now, Dawn! :D

I like long books with short chapters. It gives me a quick sense of accomplishment.

Catie (gollywollypogs) | 53 comments Good point Jeannette! Though after a long day at work in a hot train, I have to tell you it felt like hard work. Not wanting to put anyone off - it is very hard to stay awake in those stuffy commuter trains once the summer weather starts...

MichelleCH (lalatina) Jeannette wrote: "June 1st for me." Me too!

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments Yep, it looks like I will have to get those sectional threads going.

Ditto to what Jeannette said about basically using this thread to before and after the read, or just to check in on non-specific section or book matters.

Going to get, at least, the Book the First section up. I've had a very strange day dealing with a unusual present one of my cats brought into the house, all the way to the bedroom, thank you very much! Will explain tomorrow.

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments The three book section threads are up.
Book the First - Recalled to Life chapter 1 - 6
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9...
Book the Second - the Golden Thread chapter 1 - 24
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9...
Book the Third - the Track of the Storm 1 - 15
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9...

I have also included the links in the first post at the beginning of this thread.

Laura | 102 comments great job Dawn.

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments Laura, thanks! I'm glad to see you made it here, I didn't want anyone to get left behind. Will you be able to start this weekend?

Laura | 102 comments sure, you may count on me!!

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments Laura wrote: "sure, you may count on me!!"

Great! The discussion is already going along with some interesting insights over in the Book the First thread http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9... See you there!
