I've just downloaded the Maude translation (for free) from http://manybooks.net/titles/tolstoyle..., I love the translator's intro that says all proceeds (Tolstoys and hers) will go to aid the Doukhobers, because she'd rather prevent people 'killing and wounding each other' than patch them up afterwards.

I will join when I have finished War and Peace.
As usual, I have my Italian edition.
I gave a look to my edition and it has three parts so this time I will not have problems like with War and Peace.

I've just requested Resurrection from the library. It's the Penguin Anthony Briggs version. Probably not the best, but I'm giving it a shot.

I've got the Penguin edition, too, MountainShelby. It looks great so far - the opening paragraph is absolutely beautiful. I always trust Penguin to have the best translation and additional information for the best price.

I'm confused about the schedule - we'll have half as long to read Part 2 as we'll have for Parts 1 and 3, yet in the edition I have, Parts 1 and 2 are each around 200 pages long, and Part 3 is around 100 pages long. Is that unusual?

Thanks for the comment on the translation! I've not yet read this book, so I'm looking forward to it. I wish i could have joined W&P and AK readings, but I read them (albeit 200 years ago) and have very limited reading time, like many of us. Waaaaaaaaaaaa... adulthood.

Oops, sorry that is a misake, thank you for catching that, there should be the same amount of time for each part I just made a calculation error

I just picked up my old edition of Resurrection from its shelf last week and told myself, it is time for a reread. So lovely and timely.

I have read Resurrection already. Will, however, follow the discussion.

I am waiting for a copy at the library and I also ordered a copy from thriftbooks ($3.95, hard to beat). I am really interested in catching up with the discussion.

Many of the ideas that Nekhlyudov expresses about land-ownership, and the peasant class (which also seem to be reflective of Tolstoy's own ideas) are attributed to the writings of Henry George. So I thought it would be worthwhile to find out some more information about who Henry George is.

As for me, I have my french translation. In the book, it says that Resurection was first published in French in 1900 in a serial format in the "L'Echo de Paris" (abrigded version). Then, the same year there has been a new translation with pictures from Leonid Pasternak. Then in 1946, there has been a new translation (revided in 1951). All royalties from the book sold in France as well as in other countries went to a special fund for the Doukhobors (a religious sect). I wonder about today?

I don't know how it is now with the different editions. I have an edition from 1989 and on the cover there is written "complete edition" so I assume that in the past there were abriged versions.
