I'd like to nominate The Hunger Angel: A Novel. And not because I was going to read it anyway but because so much is known about WWII Jewish Holocaust and the Nazi camps but so astonishingly little about the Soviet Union hand in cruel acts against humanity. The Hunger Angel: A Novel is about a life in gulag and I think that it may be a nice introduction to the side of history still being uncovered. I'd personally recommend A World Apart: Imprisonment in a Soviet Labor Camp During World War II but Gustaw Herling-Grudziński is not a Nobel Prize winner.
