This thread is for general reading discussions. What are you reading right now, and how are you liking it?

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 574 comments Mod
I just finished reading Rosemary and Rue. I liked it a lot. She has such a great way of writing faerie.

message 3: by SheLove2Read (new)

SheLove2Read (sherrih95) I've read some Jennifer Ashley and Nalini Singh who both have great shifter series.

I'm working on my GhostWalkers reread. Another obsession of mine, along with Briggs. :)

I just got Street Game I think that is the first in the series for Ghost Walkers I think.

Well that just sucks, guess it is back to the library to try again. Thanks for telling me :-) I really hate starting mid series

Last night I started Black Wings which is just ok I am not all that into it. In part this is because I just reread the Guild Hunter series so nothing feels quite as satisfying...sigh

Gerd | 30 comments Lori Handeland; shame I can't really get into her newer Night Creature novels (book 9 and up).

I love that series Danielle, it's not all HEA but still wonderful.

message 10: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I love Sci-Fi romance so I've been reading quite a lot lately. I'm working through several series that I didn't get turned on to until now and both have a ton of books in the series which is great because it'll take me a long time to catch up. I'm getting them one at a time from the library.

message 11: by SheLove2Read (new)

SheLove2Read (sherrih95) I love SciFi romance. A good one on my keeper shelf you might try is No Words Alone

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 574 comments Mod
Carolyn, I think I will like the October Daye series as well.

Dawn, I love the GhostWalkers series. The first two books are slower reads, but still excellent. Like Sherri said, definitely want to start at the beginning.

Gerd, I've been meaning to start some of Lori Handeland's books.

Carolyn, I like Sci-Fi romance. Especially Kenyon's League series.

message 13: by Robin (new)

Robin (robin-alisha) | 30 comments I read other UF series. So far I've read a Dresden File book and a Night Huntress book. I also read a lot of Mystery/Suspense/Thriller-like books. Then sometimes I read Romance (different sub-genres of it too).

message 14: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 297 comments Basically--I read anything that is published. My Mum used to joke that if they put printing on toilet tissue I wouldn't leave the bathroom until I'd read the entire roll. Having said that--there are days when I have to read a certain KIND of book. Depending on my mood, it might have to be humour, mystery, sci-fi, fantasy. . . whatever it is, on those days, if I can't figure out WHAT I want to read, I just kind of "graze". I'll read a couple of pages of a book. If its not what I'm in the mood for, I'll put it down and read a few pages of another book. . . I'll keep that up until I find what I'm in the mood for--or until I give up (which is usually about book number 12 or so)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 574 comments Mod
Last week I read Running Scared and Living Nightmare from the Setinel series by Shannon K. Butcher. Both were 5 star reads for me. This series has taken off running.

I also read Demon by Kristina Douglas (the pseudonym of Anne Stuart), and it was awesome. Very good and different PNR with angels.

I started Spider's Bite, very gritty UF with a tough as nails heroine. I am liking it very much.

message 16: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 16 comments This week I am reading Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier and at this point I think it is brilliant. I love the fact that I am on chapter 8 and still do not know the name of the narrator how curious. I also wonder if I was ever so young.

Also reading Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse, #12) by Charlaine Harris Fifty Shades Darker (Fifty Shades, #2) by E.L. James Dawn's Awakening (Breeds, #14) by Lora Leigh

I am totally reading all over the map LOL

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 574 comments Mod
Dawn, it's fun to mix up your reading. I'm glad you're enjoying Rebecca.

message 18: by Komal (new)

Komal I'm reading Burning Alive (Sentinel Wars, #1) by Shannon K. Butcher . I haven't read PNR in a while so I thought I'd give it a try.

Emily | 31 comments I like the Kitty Norville books by Carrie Vaughn-Kitty and the Midnight Hour is the first in that series. Also, The Better Part of Darkness and Succubus Blues were good first books in series. For awesome male protagonists,The Dresden Files is top of the heap, but I also like Nightlife, Fated, and Midnight Riot.

Sorry, I get carried away with urban fantasy recommendations.

The first one didn't do much for me, but the series gets really awesome, so don't give up!

Urban fantasy set in London was big fun, and I really liked the characters in both series. Hope you try them!

That book looks good Sherri, just ordered it from the library.

Robin (robin-alisha) | 30 comments I just got Chasing Magic (Downside Ghosts, #5) by Stacia Kane . I'm not sure when it will get here. I ordered paperback. :D

message 25: by Nikki (new)

Nikki | 67 comments I *love* the Downside series! I just ordered books 1, 2, & 5 (Chasing Magic). Out of order, I know, but I've already read them all, except Chasing Magic, which is why that I got the 5th one out of order.

message 26: by Robin (new)

Robin (robin-alisha) | 30 comments Oh, cool. I still have to read them. I just hope it arrives and Books-A-Million. The order I made earlier got cancelled. Bah. :( It's fine though; I ended up getting another book. But I'd still like to read Chasing Magic.

You should definitely read that series. It is so good!
I can't wait until my copy gets here. That's the biggest complaint about online shopping; waiting!

message 30: by Biblioholic (new)

Biblioholic | 2 comments Cry Baby Hollow, by Aimee Love. This author reminds me of Patricia Briggs. Excellent writing, good story. A werewolf book with a different take on the mythos. Only females (with the right genetics) are werewolves and they change based on their monthly cycle, not the moon. Strong female lead, great supporting characters. Fast paced read. I found it on Kindle, cheap too. Like under $3

message 31: by Gerd (new)

Gerd | 30 comments Sounds interesting.
Don't have a Kindle (yet), but gonna add it to my list.

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 297 comments Lady D--you can get Kindle apps for your computer, Notebook and I-phone (of whatever type). So no reason to NOT get those freebies. :o) And CBH by Aimee Love was offered for free a few days ago. That's when I got it. Just trying to get time to READ it now.

Gerd | 30 comments Currently reading the second entry to Eileen Wilks's "World of the Lupi" series:

http://www.goodreads.com/series/40985...

Although I myself can't really get into it, she strikes thus far a good balance between Patricia's and Laurell K. Hamilton's style (which makes me think that I actually should like it, but can't put my finger on it why I don't).

message 35: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimlow) | 7 comments My favorites are Ilona Andrews and Eileen Wilks in addition to Patricia Briggs. I also really like Christina Dodd's Others series.

message 39: by SheLove2Read (new)

SheLove2Read (sherrih95) I read a shifter book the other day, coincidentally the heroine named Anna (shakes head), and not naming names (because it was awful) but I always seem to compare shifter books to Patty's. She's my standard. Whenever I'm feeling especially down or mired in books I can't seem to get interested in, I know I can always turn to the Alpha and Omega prequel to get me out of my funk!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 574 comments Mod
I definitely hold PB up as a high standard for werewolf fiction myself, Sherri.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 574 comments Mod
I finished Wolf's Hour early this morning, and this is a must read for werewolf fiction lovers.

Also got All Hallows Moon as a free download, only sampled the first couple pages, but liked what I read so far.

message 43: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 2 comments I just started reading Susan Krinard's "Touch of the Wolf". But, I was curious if any of you avid readers of werewolf/shape shifter books know the series/book title that has to do with characters involving a wolf and a woman who was attacked by someone named Jack which she seems to hear in her head and turns into a cougar/black panther unbeknownst to her and she lives in a house and is saved by the male wolf who places a large duffel bag of meat at her feet while she is in were form in the tree in the park. any ideas what the title or author of this book is??? it'd be greatly appreciated as it is driving me nuts. thanks

message 44: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 297 comments No idea Cassandra. But if no one else knows, there is a group set up in GR just to find the titles of lost/forgotten books. http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/1... will take you there, you can join and then post your book. Sometimes books get found right away, sometimes it takes a while--but a LOT of people belong and help out everyone that they can.

Anna | 53 comments Full Moon Rising (Riley Jenson Guardian, #1) by Keri Arthur Just finished Keri Arthur's Full Moon Rising - not really my thing - to much spurious sex (the wolves have to have frequent sex during the full moon phase or they go a bit rabid!) but the narrative and characterisation were good if you want stick to werewolves.
Carrie Vaughn's weres are ok but her world isn't as fully developed as Patricia Briggs. Kelly Armstrong's Otherworld is a were-based series with a world view very much focussed around wolves.
Ilona Andrews is great...*pining for a new book*!

message 48: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen (user_kathleen) | 63 comments I liked Bayou Moon (The Edge, #2) by Ilona Andrews Bayou Moon by Illone Andrews). The changeling William is pretty cool, and the suspense is good. I also liked the family relationships. It's book 2 in the Edge series.
