Software Engineering discussion

Fran is the only person in this book who I have met, although it was brief. She was in the audience of a talk I gave, and we chatted afterwards. She struck me as very thoughtful, and very nice. She gets a lot of attention because she is a pioneer woman in computing, but more importantly she is just a plain pioneer in computing, gender aside. I enjoyed reading her thoughts on the state of women in computing today, and why women are under represented. She believes that many women do not view computing as socially relevant enough.

I felt a lot of passion coming from Fran Allen while reading this interview. I’m sure she would become a great teacher if she had pursued that route in life.
