jaxnsmom | 8341 comments As The Marshall Tucker Band put it:

And I'm searchin' for a rainbow
And if the wind ever showed me where to go
You'll be waitin' at the end, and I'll know
I've seen the hill with that pot o' gold
I've seen the hill with that pot o' gold

"The Morning Side of the Hill" by Jacqueline Reed This book is not on GR. It was published in 1960 and has a solid red cover - the title's not even on the cover. I don't even know what it's about, but Reed was/is a member of Mystery Writers of America, and is from WV, so I thought I'd check it out. read 7/25/12

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I'll keep that in mind :) I've been wanting to read it for a while after seeing it discussed on GR. I also want to read When Autumn Leaves for another challenge. Sure makes it easier when books can overlap...maybe I can subliminally coerce groups into reading the same book for at least one of the choices.

message 24: by jaxnsmom (last edited Jul 13, 2012 08:21PM) (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments It has some, but not as many as I thought it would. It could have been shorter! But when I was losing interest, there would be a part about an animal that made me laugh or tugged at my heart. These people are definitely a different breed (ha ha)! They have lives, but the animals seem to take up at least 85% of their time. The title is not misleading - they really are enslaved to all their animals, and there are a lot more than just ducks. The thought of all the maintenance required sends me running in the opposite direction.

I have a connection to Hawaii. My sister & her family live there. My mother worked there for a year before she returned to Canada and married my dad. So maybe I wouldn't mind the wordiness.

I was debating about listening to it on audiobook.
