I was wondering if others have read some of the great horror classic's?

I have missed a few and some I have read so long ago I wouldnt mind revisiting them.

I was wondering if anyone would care to tackle one of these books in a buddy read in the near future.

Perhaps I'll put up a poll and we can vote on a classic to read? In any case please add your favorite classics to this thread.

Anything 25 years old or greater would fit the bill.

Here's a short list I came up with:

The Sentinel by Jeffery Konvitz (never read)
The Sentinel

The Haunting Of Hill House by Shirley Jackson (NR)
The Haunting of Hill House

The Damned by Algernon Blackwood (NR)
The Damned

Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury (read ages ago) X
Something Wicked This Way Comes

The Fog by James Herbert (NR))
The Fog

The Howling by Gary Brandner (NR)
The Howling

We by Yevgeny Zamyatin (NR)
We

The Shining by Stephen King (read ages ago)
The Shining

William (wmcc) Great list Kevin.I have only read "The Fog" and "The Shining" and can definitely vouch for those.quite rightly considered classics.

I have been wanting to try Ray Bradbury and Shirley Jackson for a while now.King's has been raving about them for years so they must have something yeah.

I recently read a classic

I Am Legendand loved it,completely blew me away, have you read it yet Kevin?

Yes, I have read "I Am Legend", it's a great book.

I am currently reading "The Exorcist" and "Something Wicked This Way Comes".

Both are great reads.

I currently re-read "Something Wicked This Way Comes", and MAN, I enjoyed it!

Bradbury's prose are extremeley colorful and an absolute pleasure to read.

I think I will tackle "The Haunting Of Hill House", next.

First I have a few other books to knock-out.

Hi Deb,

Yep, The Sentinel is OOP. It's a shame that a classic such as this is so hard to find.

Stacy, I wont put up a poll until I know enough people are interested in joing the read.

Maybe if 2 or 3 more people jump in, then I'll put up a poll.

Eric Greenfield i really think The Haunting of Hill House set the genre going. It had all the great elements in it.

Eric if you would like to join the read let me know. We could use a few extra people to kick this thing off.

If you would like, please add Hill House to the classic book list.

Thanks.

Ok Eric,

Right now it looks like it's just Stacy, Karen, myself, and you. I hold off on a poll for a book read until a few more decide they would like to read with us.

William (wmcc) I would also be interested in a group read Kevin. The Howling and Rosemary's baby are in my TBR pile.

OK William, I'll prepare a poll for next month. I think Debby is in on this also. So we should have a decent group read.

If there is a book you want added to the poll please add it to the Classic Horror book thread. I will be placing all books mentioned in that thread on the poll.

Thanks.

I was thinking about another classic book read before the end of the year, anyone up for it?

message 15: by Karl (new)

Karl Any one read "The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym" by Poe. (his only novel) I believe this is the basis of all of Lovecraft's Cthulhu stories.

Christie Bray | 4 comments Bradbury book is great! Highly recommend it. Also The Shining was really hard to put down...

Something Wicked is one of my all time favorite books.

Justin (justinbienvenue) The Monk by Matthew Lewis is ancient and one of the goriest, disturbing and sinister books to ever be written.
