Candiss (tantara) | 1207 comments To get the ball rolling:

I hope to read these this month. All are group reads. I haven't yet decided what order I'll read them in.

The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi Moon Tiger by Penelope Lively Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke Amsterdam by Ian McEwan The Etched City by K.J. Bishop

message 3: by Nyssa (new)

Nyssa | 213 comments I will continue/finsih the Honorverse series and then begin either the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series or the Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

message 4: by Jon (new)

Jon (jonmoss) I'm starting two books today, both of which I'm leading a discussion for at two other GoodReads groups (what's wrong with me? I need my head examined): The Shadow Rising and The Silent Tower

I'm on a detour trip in the Honor Harrington series, though, trying to read through Crown of Slaves and The Shadow of Saganami and I just realized I also need to squeeze in The Service of the Sword before returning to the group read of At All Costs. Thank goodness they are all available on my Nook so I can read when and where I can.

I also need to finish the Riyria series with Percepliquis, but I doubt I'll get to that book until the end of July.

Stuart (asfus) | 136 comments Still reading Stalking Shadows by S.A. Hunter

I should also add The Service of the Sword to my Honor side reads, but I haven't found it at the free library yet. So I may buy it in the future, but probably not in time to insert it before At All Costs.

I am currently reading Shadow of Saganami.

message 7: by Viv (new)

Viv JM I'm making my way through The Mists of Avalon - it may take some time!!

Also going to read the second in NK Jemisin's Dreamblood series, The Shadowed Sun.

message 8: by Jim (new)

Jim Mcclanahan (clovis-man) | 485 comments Am making quick work of Mysterious Planet by Lester Del Rey in its original 1953 edition under the pen name Kenneth Wright. Pure nostalgia for me in that I read these Winston Science Fiction stories when I was a kid. Then it will be on to The Yellow Admiral by Patrick O'Brian. Getting close to the end of this magnificent series.

message 9: by Ken (new)

Ken (ogi8745) | 1430 comments I am still reading Mistborn: The Final Empire. Still a very good book

message 10: by Deedee (new)

Deedee | 136 comments I started .... and tossed 1/3rd way in .... Sacre Bleu: A Comedy d'Art. Getting ready to begin Lord Kelvin's Machine; and, I have The Mists of Avalon at hand. Also am looking to read Assassin's Apprentice sometime this month.

I finished Bossypants, which was good fun, and now I'm continuing to work through King Hereafter, alternating with reading Among Others by Jo Walton. So far I'm ambivalent about Among Others; it's not really grabbing me so that I have to find out what happens next, but I'm interested enough to continue reading it (plus it's for another book group, so I want to be able to discuss it). Hopefully something actually happens soon, because even though I'm enjoying the character building, I'm getting a bit impatient with the lack of plot.

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 372 comments The Black Prism, which I been waiting to read since I finshed the Night Angel Trilogy last fall.

Starting At All Costs, at long last.

message 15: by Christine (new)

Christine | 637 comments I finished up Carpe Diem and while waiting for Plan B to come in from my library read The Innocent. Baldacci doesn't disappoint!! Now I'm just starting Victims and have Plan B waiting on the shelf. Did I mention how much I'm enjoying reading the Liaden universe books!!! I also need to get back to Modesitt

message 16: by Ken (new)

Ken (ogi8745) | 1430 comments Finished up Mistborn and I enjoyed it. A bit of filler in the middle but all in all not half bad

Been on a big baseball kick this year so I am reading
Ball Four

message 17: by Christine (new)

Christine | 637 comments Enjoyed Victims but not as much as The Innocent; police procedurals can get a bit draggy. Now I'm back to the Liaden universe with Plan B and feel like I've come home!!

Finished At All Costs and, after 3 Honor or Honorverse books in a row, I'm taking a break with The Dragon Reborn.

message 19: by Jim (last edited Jul 18, 2012 05:13PM) (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I just finished Claus: Legend of the Fat Man. I'm not much on YA books as a general rule, but this one was a hoot. Lots of up & down adventures with all my favorite characters. (Frosty is an A bomb, an annihilator, & total bad ass!) I think it might just be for the Kindle, but if you ask Tony, he'll get you any format you want. It's a quick read, but well worth it.

message 20: by Jim (last edited Jul 19, 2012 04:22AM) (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Over the course of a month, I worked my way through Lord of the Fantastic: Stories in Honor of Roger Zelazny, a wonderful collection of stories. My review is here:
http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

It's amazing how many authors that Zelazny influenced & how profoundly. The afterwords by each author were as interesting as their stories.

message 21: by Christine (new)

Christine | 637 comments I finished Plan B which had a bit more military strategy and fighting for my taste, but I still enjoyed it. Now I've taken a new tack and am readingThe Big Cat Nap: The 20th Anniversary Mrs. Murphy Mystery-a nice light summer read. Next up, one of the following: The Killing Moon, Gypped: A Regan Reilly Mystery, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, What Dies in Summer

message 22: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyc89) | 127 comments I'm listening to Anansi Boys and I'm reading The Iliad. I'm also finally finished up 1Q84, woo hoo! I'm loving the book but I've been taking way too long with it.

I finally finished King Hereafter last night. It was wonderful, but I didn't like it quite as much as her Lymond and Niccolo series; even though it's a standalone, I don't know that I'd recommend it as a first Dunnett book. There were some parts in the middle that I had a hard time getting through. Though the end had me in tears...

I'm heading out of town to visit family for a few weeks tomorrow, and bringing along my fully loaded Kindle. I don't know how much time to read I'll have (vacation does not necessarily equal leisure time when you have a toddler) but I'll be back with a full report in two weeks :) (and might check in on my iPhone while I'm gone).

Enjoy! Even if there is not a lot of leisure, vacations are always fun. Are you coming to the midwest?

The next time I travel via airplane (Sept.) I plan to just take the books on my iPad. But when I travel by car, I usually bring at least one "real" book along, or some magazines.

So, back on track--I started Mission of Honor, the July entry in our Honor Harrington series read, but decided I needed to read the side books that occur between At All Costs and Mission of Honor, so now I'm reading Storm from the Shadows, to be followed by Torch of Freedom, and then I'll be back to the main series. Oh, and I probably will read the next Wheel of Time book, The Shadow Rising, for another group read, although I'm already a month behind.

Sage travels. Maybe CO is cooler than the midwest. I hope you are not going near the fire areas.

Shel (shel99) | 3140 comments Mod
There were some fires outside of Boulder, but thankfully they managed to fight them off before they reached the city. My in-laws say that it's been just as ridiculously hot there as everywhere else, though. We'll also be spending a week up in the mountains with my family, who are all meeting us there, so at least it'll be cool(er) at altitude!

Ken (ogi8745) | 1430 comments Finished up Ball Four, It wasnt quite what I was expecting but it ended up being pretty enjoyable.
