During the past week I have completed the Fifty Shades trilogy by E.L. James:

Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) by E.L. James Fifty Shades of Grey (Book 1)

Fifty Shades Darker (Fifty Shades, #2) by E.L. James Fifty Shades Darker (Book 2)

Fifty Shades Freed (Fifty Shades, #3) by E.L. James Fifty Shades Freed (Book 3)

Okay, here is my problem with the series: I didn't like Christian Grey as a person and I am not referring to his kinky sex habits.

When Ana agrees to meet with Leila and asks the guard to be with her, Christian over reacts and later fires the guard. I kept thinking that he would eventually rehire her, but it didn't happen. Also, at the point when things got better, Ana didn't insist that guard be rehired. The lack of action on her part doesn't speak well in Ana's favor. And yes, I know she didn't like her, but the woman was fired for following orders.

He moves his shipyard to Taiwan and Ana asks about the poeple employed in the U.S. He says that many will be sent overseas. What about the others?? Is he offering the others positions in his holdings???

Lastly when he finds who provided bail for Jack Hyde, he buys that man's company. Okay, I get that action, but then he tells Ana that he will dismantle the company in front of the individual. Again, what about Susie, the secretary and Joe, the janitor???

He tells Ana that is how he makes money. He is a financial shark for whom I would have zero respect in the real world. So, no I don't get what all the hoopla is about. Yes, he had an awful early childhood and figuring out what made Fifty tick is what kept me reading. That part of the story is compeling.

Readers who are disturbed by kicky sex should be warned that the sex is explicit, graphic, and reflects BDSM practics before considering whether to read this series.

I gave the first book four stars, second book five stars, and third book four stars. James keeps you reading and deserves kudos for making readers want to know what makes Christian tick. Too bad she didn't make him someone you could respect.

Sandra Hi, I am new to the group and have tried very hard to read this book. I don't like it!! I have read about half and mostly skimmed through that. I hate Ana's "subconscious" and her "inner goddess". Sorry, but I don't think I will finish it. I have to say that my 21yr old twin daughters loved the whole series, so maybe this book is more for younger people?

Don't know if age is a factor. My 27 year old daughter enjoyed it immensely, but one of her best friends who is of a similar age, hated it. I read the whole series only to understand what all the hoopla was about. I didn't like the hero, which spoiled the series for me.
