I enjoyed this book immensely. Kay was very human. I thought the book was well written too. I can't wait to read more.

Susan I also liked this book a lot, although the niece was frankly annoying. However, overall it was a good read. I had read the novel some time ago and I think I read a few books before giving up on the series, but I will try again.

Susan This book never got much comment, did it?

No it doesn't seem to have. I wonder if anyone read it or has read it in the past.

Kim (kimlp) Have read most of the Scarpetta books. This is the first in a series and the main characters (including Benton, Marino, and Lucy) remain constant (and sometimes unpredictable) forces in future Scarpetta novels. If I remember correctly there seemed to be more "character development" than "story" in this one. But the development of characters is very, very important in this series. These characters lives become even more intertwined as the series moves forward. And each time the reader thinks they know the characters (and their often troubled psyches and moral struggles) ~ knows what they're capable of or how they're going to react in certain situations ~ one of them goes and does something to surprise us all over again. That's really the best thing about the Scarpetta series. You never know what's going to happen next. These characters, along with their quirky personalties, superior intelligence, amazing skills, and yet VERY human emotions make this series enjoyable to read ~ and almost believe.
