Winter Newsletter
December * January * February
Dear Manga Lovers,
As you may or may not have noticed, our group has had a number of changes made to it. These changes have been in the discussion board, in the polls, photos, icon picture, events, and a change in management (to me since September). There are still more changes to come, including some additional forum changes and a possible moderators position opening. Even in the midst of all of these changes and the ones still to come, our group has continued to grow in membership and books on our shelf.
So what other excitement can you look forward to this season? These are lots of events coming up through February.
Monthly Events
*Challenges
~December – January: Research Challenge
~February: Raiding the Library
*Pick-a-Manga
~December: Action
~January: Classics
~February: Romance
Quarterly Events
Anime Series: Hikaru no Go
Challenge: Slim Down
Yearly Events
*Manga-a-Day
~215 – 305
I have admittedly fallen behind in updating the suggested reading, so please look forward to a massive catch up session over the next couple of months.
*Mangaka of the Year
I was caught off guard by the immense response to this year’s poll. The goal was to have people nominate who they liked, and have a favorite emerge. The most popular choice was “everyone,” which was originally a place holder in order to establish a poll. Never fear, I have devised a plan to accommodate this selection. Every mangaka that was nominated will have a two month feature, and will proceed in the following order:
January – February: Clamp
March – April: Naoko Takeuchi
May – June: Osamu Tezuka
July – August: Kei Toume
September – October: Rumiko Takahashi
November – December: your pick
This concludes our seasonal newsletter. I’m looking forward to another season of fun-filled time with books as I hope you are too!
Happy Reading!

Spring
Hi Manga Lovers!
I know it has been a while since I've poked my head in here, and that you missed the spring newsletter. Okay, so maybe you didn't. I wanted to let everyone know that I'll be updating things later this week since I have some time. Expect good things!

Summer Newletter
June * July * August
Hello Manga Lovers!
I wanted to send everyone a short newsletter to give a group update and a glance at upcoming events and changes.
~Changes~
I have reworked a number of features in our group from the discussion boards, to polls and events. As most of you know, I have taken over the leadership role as well as maintaining the ongoing events we hold here. I have taken us officially off of "remodeling," though there won't be anything fun for a "re-opening" as you often see with stores that go through a remodel. I will continue to work to improve our group.
I am personally going through a number of changes in my own life. I have graduated from college and will be looking for a job and a place to live. This will limit my access to host events, so a good portion of them will either be set up far in advance, or essentially suspended. More on that a little later.
If you or someone you know is interested in being a monitor, please send me a message. I have a number of jobs and task I need help with from being a librarian, events assistance, news reporter...
~events~
BOM
I will maintain the Book of the Month for as long as I can. For me, it's the most important one, even if I’m not always on the ball with updating it.
Pick-a-Manga
June: Drama
July: Astrology/Astronomy
pick something relating to the stars, space, or a zodiac inspired story
August: Crime
pick a crime spree or crime solving story such as DN Angel
Manga a Day Challenge
I have tried to use a new feature of GR groups, the official challenge. It's the comeback of the Manga a Day Challenge! Basically it's a manga a day for a whole year. This time it's running July/2012 - July/2013. For now, I will not be doing a "suggested reading," but I hope to in the future when I am more settled. If you need inspiration, please look at the 2012 list. I got 2/3 of the way through that one.
Please check it out and participate! It should be fun!
To sign up, click to participate. Fill in a number for the goal. Write in the bookshelf name, manga, to mark your progress for this challenge.
Featured Movies & Anime
I'll pick these in the meantime, since I'm suspending the challenges for picking them. Now, if there is one that you want us as a group to see, look at the criteria for movies, and send me a message with your suggestion.
June: Castle in the Sky
July: Grave of the Fireflies
August: Sailor Moon S: The Movie
Summer: Angel Galaxy
Other Challenges
this will be suspended until further notice.

Autumn Newsletter
September *October* November
Hello Manga Lovers!
The seasons have changed again, and so it’s time for another newsletter! There are not too many changes or updates to report, so I guess this letter will be relatively short.
~changes/updates~
I’ll try to be better about the BOM discussions (such as setting them up). So please look for them and don’t be afraid to talk about the books! What you liked, disliked, surprised you… it’s half the fun of reading books as a group, discussing them.
I’m hoping to add a “staff picks” section too. I haven’t quite decided how to set it up yet, but please look forward to it!
Speaking of staff, please let me know if you are interested in helping out around our group! I need help with books, events, and reporting news.
~events~
BOM
I will be adding new discussions for some of our past BOMs. Please look for them and discuss up a storm!
Pick-a-Manga
September: Botany/Environment
October: Horror
November:Biology
Manga a Day Challenge
You might have noticed that our group is holding a year-long challenge. If you have elected to read a manga a day, 365, you should be around 91 books read by October. Never fear if you are a little behind, I’m a little behind myself. Haven’t joined yet? It’s easy to join in on the reading adventure! Just click on the challenge and set a goal! It’s that easy! It’ll count all of the read books that you have tagged as “read,” “manga,” and dated since July.
Featured Movies/Anime
September: My Neighbor Totoro
October: Bleach: Memories of Nobody
November: Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back
Autumn: Samurai 7
3rd Annual Poll-a-thon
October marks the 3rd annual of our fantastic Poll-a-thon! Tons of polls get added and culled out during this time. A participant will be randomly selected to pick the December Featured Movie for Movie Night!
This year there will be a Survey Series about the group. This is to let me know how the group is doing, what people feel about the group, and what I should focus on during the time I can spend on the group. If you have time yourself, and enjoy polls, definitely stop by and vote!
That wraps up all the news happening around the group. Make sure to come on by and see how it all comes together!

Fall Newsletter
August * September * October * November
Dear Manga Lovers,
You might have noticed that our group has been going through some changes for some time now, namely growing in size. To better meet the needs of our ever growing family, our book club has and will be making changes. Topics and folders will be added, deleted, and reorganized, new events will be launched, and there will be changes in the invitation and communication process between the monitors and you, our dedicated members. These changes will take time; I possess a seven page outline on desired changes to make our group function better, as well as to try to see what best fits our group. I am very excited about making our group the best it can be, as I’m sure you are too. Here are some improvements you can expect to see:
Seasonal newsletters
Condensing of discussion folders and topics
Poll clean-up
Revamp of the Suggest a Book of the Month
New events and more!
As you may now, I run the events here at Manga Book Club. I’m very excited about the events coming up this fall season, as I hope you are too! Here’s the rundown on what to expect this fall:
Book of the Month
August: Saiyuki vol. 1-3
Pick-a-Manga
Categories to include Music and Folklore
Movie Night
Lear has picked a thrilling movie for August, Cowboy Bebop!
Year of Manga
We are approaching the 1/3 benchmark for our book a day. We will be covering days 96-215 in August through November, so get your game face on, we still have a long way to go! Updates to the Suggested Reading will occur sometime during the second week of each month. Books to look for on the list this fall are: Codename: Sailor V, Skip Beat, Deathnote, and Naruto.
Monthly Challenges
Fall is the time to get your creative juices flowing as our events will be related to music and poetry this season!
2nd Annual Poll-a-thon
This October event will come with its own challenge, as well as the release of a bunch of new polls! Remember to stop by our poll section to exercise your voting rights!
New Events: Quarterly Challenges and Anime Series!
I’m very excited about these new events! There will be a quarterly challenge to determine who will pick our quarterly featured anime series. I know many have been eagerly waiting for the inclusion of anime to our events, so I’m very pleased about its launch. The quarterly challenges will be more time consuming than the monthly challenges, but it will also mean more people will be able to join in on the fun. They will be launched in September, so be on the lookout!
