I'm about half of the way through but all the war stuff has really slowed me down and I'm off to Scotland for a couple of weeks for some family time so I thought I better start this thread now.

If you want to put what page you are on at the top of your post then it means we can read, and respond to, posts that we have read up to in the book. If it is a big spoiler can you put the page number at the top and then cover the spoiler (click on some html is ok and the instructions are there) my eyes scan far too much;)

There's plenty in this book so enjoy!

p180

the women all seem to have such sadness in them. I think Ursula has great spirit though and is an amazing matriarch.

I'm a bit tired of the war - not my sort of thing really. Can anyone tell me if it goes on for much longer?

Finally finished! There was a lot to appreciate in this book and although I never found it a page turner, I did enjoy getting to know Macondo and a century of the Buendia family. I feel like I need to read it all again now just so I can properly take in all the little details. I know it's one of those books that has so many layers and hidden meanings, just wish I had the time to go through it all a second time.... maybe one day I'll return to it.

I think it's a book that will stay with me, it's so unique. Going to have a good look at the guide on the Oprah pages. I would give 100yofs 5 stars but it loses a star for just being a bit dull in places(the war for example!) On reflection though, it was a very good read on the whole. Wonderful characters.

There are quite a few of us who finished reading this - what did you think?

I got stuck on the neverending war (lol) and need to return to it.
