EXcellent Book. A friend had sent it to me and said if I could stomach the first few pages, I'd love it. It was tough getting through those first pages, no doubt. But well worth it. Fabulous read and the movie does not disappoint either. One of Matthew Mcconnehey's actually GOOD performances (ok i spelled his name wrong, but his acting has been a lot of fluff since his role in A Time to Kill).

Mike Sawson | 32 comments Read this book years ago and loved every single page. It's easily one of his best novels. Even tho I won't be joining you folks on your adventure, I will enjoy following along with your progress.

April | 6 comments Thanks. Those of you who aren't reading, feel free to respond if you are following along.

I got the actual paperbook copy of this book from my aunt when I was little. Strangely enough, she had no qualms giving me this one, but wouldn't let me read The Chamber.

The movie of this is one of the few (the best IMHO) John Grisham transfers from novel to film. Everytime I read this, I see Ashley Judd as his wife, Donald Sutherland as Lucien, Matthew McConaughey as Jake, and, of course, Sandra.

Mike Sawson | 32 comments Yes, the movie was great, too, but as good as that flick was, I think The Runaway Jury was the best of all the Grisham films. I prefer to read the book 1st, cuz it's always better and it's best if you don't know how it ends.

Michael Andrew (michael_mesina) | 1 comments This was the first Grisham book I read (sometime in the 90's) and instantly got me hooked. Now my Grisham books are the jewels in my collection.

This along with The Pelican Brief and The Client, imo, are his best.

This was also my first Grisham book and got me hooked, too. I have all his books in my collection.

Alexis | 12 comments A time to Kill was also my first Grisham book. It's definitely my favorite along with Runaway Jury and The Rainmaker.

April | 6 comments Alexis, have you tried The Last Juror? One of the newer ones, but definitely one of my favorites.

Alexis | 12 comments I did read that novel and thought it was very good.

Jamie Wilmes-channel | 3 comments I think I have to say I agree with April. I've seen the film version of some of Grisham's novels and they're certainly decent but I think the film version of A Time to Kill is one of the few books turned into movies that stays as close to, if not almost completely follows, the entire book from beginning to end

I agree. Even when I just read Sycamore Row, the actors from the movie stuck with me. It was perfectly casted. Donald Sutherland as Lucien and Oliver Platt as Harry Rex are two of my favs.

Karen Catacora | 1 comments A Time to Kill is by far my favorite Grisham novel. I have read every one including the follow up, Sycamore Row.

Andaleeb Zaidi | 2 comments I have started reading A time to kill now.It will be my first John Grisham book. All excited after reading all your comments.

James Nolan (jimmy56) | 1 comments Am reading this book great book have 100 pages left ,didn't think I would be into court room drama be I'm addicted to it just got the sequel sycamore row will get to this in the new year .

Melissa Madrid | 12 comments It's been a long time since I have read this book but it was good. I thought they did a great job adapting the book to the movie. I thought they did a great job casting the movie. I've seen it a few times. The story in itself is very sad in what happened to the poor girl, what her family went through and how hard the lawyer struggled to help the family. It's just a really well written story.
