Offer your suggestions for particular philosophers of whom we could and perhaps should have a more involved discussion of within this group.

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) Cicero. The Good Life.

I know nothing of Kojeve, Lukacs and I wouldn't trust myself on Heidegger but you are allowed create a thread for anything you would like.

Dmitry (dmitry_sokolov) Kojéve is pretty much well-known in France and Germany alike, in USA he is mostly known via Fukuyama's theory about "the end of history" which was popular back in 1990s. Lukács is less known now, but in Germany and in Eastern Europe he was among the most well-known Marxist philosophers of the last century. Thanks for advice, probably I should make a topic when I'll have a little bit more free time.

John | 41 comments I would like to moderate a grp dedicated to navigating the spiritual- materialism divide by reading relevant thinkers as Voegelin, Jaspers, Buber, Heidegger, etc.

message 12: by John (new)

John | 41 comments Must read is Voegelin's bk on ideology if one wants to understand the modern age's insanity in which millions were murdered for what but defunct ideologies- capitalism being one where the rich thrive and the poor barely survive!
