Book Junkies discussion

I'm putting this thread up if anybody wants to join as a moderator for Book Junkies. I started the group a few months ago, and while I have enjoyed moderating, I will be going back to school soon and won't have as much time as I'd like to spend on Goodreads. I also know that Martha is pretty busy as well ('specially with her 500-book reading challenge goal!O_O). I will still continue to be a moderator, but I would like to have one or two extra mods to keep things running if either Martha or myself are unable.

That said, you can post a comment on this thread or message Martha or me if you are interested in becoming a moderator. The job will include organizing the discussion threads if need be, taking up BotM suggestions and adding them into the polls, updating the group's bookshelves, leading the group read discussions, etc.

(I just wanted to add in a sort of job description if you've never moderated a group before:D)

This thread is still open. If there's anyone who'd like to become a mod, there's still a postition available. Just remember, we'd prefer it if you were relatively active on Goodreads. That way if either Martha or I get too busy, we can count on the other mod to pick up the slack.

What exactly will the moderator be required to do?

Martha and I pretty much have everything covered now, but when summer is over, we both will be going to school and won't have much time to spend on Goodreads. So this means the new moderator will have to take up a few of the responsibilities.

With regards to group reads, the responsibilities include posting threads for suggestions at the beginning of the month and taking up the suggestions in the middle of the month and putting them into poll. Towards the end of the month, whichever book wins the poll, the mod will have to add it to the group's shelves.

The mod has to send out occassional broadcasts to the group to notify them about new threads, features, or updates.

The mod has the ability to delete any of the members' comments. The only case when this would be acceptable is when someone uses foul language or is otherwise hostile towards other members. If a particular member gains a reputation of hostile behavior, they must recieve 3 warnings. If after these warnings they are still behaving unfavorably, the mod may ban them from the group. (This doesn't happen often, btw)

In Book Junkies, specifically, we change the group's profile and masthead photos to match the month's theme.

This isn't required, but it is also nice for mods to welcome new members to the group.

If anyone starts a thread and it is placed in the wrong folder, the mod can move it to another folder. This keeps things organized and easier to understand.

That's really it. A few things here and there. Martha and I won't be dead, so we will still be able to take care of a few of these responsibilities. If you are still interested, message me and I will tell you your responsibilities in the group (they will be selected from the tasks listed above).

I would love to take up the opportunity of moderating the group. I have been active on GR only quite recently.

However, I am pretty much online all day and could easily keep the forum in good shape.

I'd be so psyched if you were to help out, Ansareen! To avoid any any disasters like our previous co-mods (we added them and they didn't do anything, just hung around like limp fish), we'll try you out for a month, and if you don't like being a mod, we'll remove you and there'll be no harm done. If you do like it, then great!!!

During this "trial" time, Martha and I will help you figure out the general workings of things and give you tips and other such goodies, while you run around on a perpetual high because of these magnificent and most excellent powers of destruction that we've bestowed upon you.

If you've read through Martha's deets, and are still interested, then drop a comment and I'll give you full and uninhibited mod priveleges:)

New mods, yay! I logged onto Goodreads, and then clicked on Book Junkies, and then I saw two new mods, and I was like, "WHHHHAAAAAATTT...??????"

But, phew, thankfully, my mind isn't disintegrating into a pile of slush. I am sane!!
