I respect the fact that she is vocal about it or they will not abide by her characterization of this Mangus.
Suzanne Collins could have been vocal behind the scenes. I mean Lenny K was not originally AA

Well to be fair, CC's situation is different b/c they haven't cast the part yet so there is still a possibility they'll muck it up and as she states she has very little control over casting.
In Suzanne Collins' case, the proof was already in the pudding. There was nothing to defend because her characters got cast appropriately. I honestly didn't think she needed to make a big statement because some people can't read.

I tried to read the first book in the series and couldn't get through it but then, I had just read a couple bad YA novels in a row and just didn't have any more patience left by the time I tried to read City of Bones.

People have had their comments about Cassandra Clare, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However let me say, Cassandra Clare does well for what she writes, and isnt afraid to stand up to her own fans in regards to whitewashing.
This is not to come down on readers whom are Caucasian. But There is a white privilege that you are not aware that is not shared with us. We need characters to relate to just as much as you do. Im sure most best sellers would be nothing if ONLY white readers bought them.
When I read Cassandra Clare's book, while I may not see a character that looks like me, I know she's doing her best to represent races one book at a time. Publishers dont realize that her readers are not just white 14 year old girls. So who's to say how many characters she's actually written as minorities that a publishing house may have whitewashed?

I concluded with her series The Clockwork Princess, and I had to say it impressed me more than The mortal instruments series. There werent any black people because of the time it's set in, but two characters are biracial asian guys.
I think anyone who didnt like City of Bones and on, would maybe like this more. Her leading lady is white, and as much as I'd like to root for my POC women, her leading lady had me. She was not a sap,and maybe better written than Clary if you didnt like her.
