Francine, how do you remind yourself to stay focused on the present? I've found it easier to be present if I quit trying so hard to swim up stream and instead gently guide my boat. For me it is a good reminder that I have some control, because I have a choice, but that to be on the river means dealing with the rapids.

"No one can choose your mountain
or tell you when to climb...
It's yours alone to challenge
at your own pace and time." ~Patricia Harber

Great, great quote Richard! I think it pertains because "letting go" and learning to "just be" are mountains of mine that I am climbing. I'm hard on myself because I feel like I should be faster or better and getting to the top. It goes back to enjoying the journey. Accepting where you are is the first step to transcendence.

I think I am probably a lot older than either of you. Be easy on yourselves.

The Ego does make this concept a hard one to grasp. The idea that we are a soul borrowing this body for an experience was mind blowing to me at first. I was so offended by the idea and I don't even know why now. Getting out of the victim mindset and understanding that the experience- this life - was your choice is hard because it's taking responsibility for your journey. It is still a lesson I'm learning.

Late to the discussion, but the idea that changed my life the most was John 9:41, where Jesus says, "If you were blind, you would have no sin, but because you say, 'we see,' your sin remains."
Basically, the way I understand that verse is that Jesus was saying that the birthplace of enlightenment is agnosticism. Becoming a person of "I don't know" has been a tremendously liberating experience for me. It's not that I don't have beliefs, I just hold them with an open hand. They do not define me, they're just things I believe right now. They are constantly changing.

This seems like a great book..and will try to find it and read it. And yeah..most people care about what others think of them..totally unnecessary..As Oscar Wilde said it - Be yourself..everyone else is already taken:) Thanks for the recommendation cat :)
@Ananda - I love that Oscar Wilde quote, though to be honest I love Oscar Wilde in general. SO many people are afraid to be who they are not because they are afraid of failure, but afraid of shinning. :)

I also requested you as a friend,
Dave
