I already own a few of these. They've been teetering on my Mount TBR for a while, so that ought to be enough reason to choose them, but I'm still waffling :-)

Janice (jamasc) Our itl book club read Late Nights on Air. Some people really liked it while others didn't. Being from the north, you may relate to the culture in it. Hay's descriptiongs are poetic!

Also The Book of Negroes: A Novel is an incredible book and gives some history of Nova Scotia that isn't well known. I highly recommend this one.

GateGypsy | 126 comments Thanks for the recommendation. I actually own Late Nights on Air because it was required reading for a college course (that I didn't actually read. I'm dreadful.) I'm looking forward to Book of Negroes, though. I've heard lots of good things about it!

Autumn Nice, thanks for this, you've inspired me to put my own list together. A couple of years back CBC Reads posted a list of books by province...I'm going to see if I can unearth that list.

There are So Many good books set in BC!

Oh, wow. That would be really nice if we could find that CBC list of books by province.

Janice (jamasc) Welcome Autumn!

GateGypsy- I'm going to have a hard time choosing, too. There's so many interesting books out there set in the same province that it'll be hard to decide on one.

GateGypsy | 126 comments Oooh, new list! Thanks! **clicks**

Thanks for finding that list, Chelsea. It's been helpful in finding books.

GateGypsy | 126 comments I'm starting to think I may be forced to read all of these books so I don't have to choose ;-)

Janice (jamasc) There are no rules stopping you. Have at it!

message 12: by Betty (new)

Betty The Shipping News was good. I don't know the others.

I might have to read all the books on my list, too. There's so many books that sound wonderful out there that I'm going to have a hard time choosing.

GateGypsy | 126 comments I just checked with my local library, and I can easily get my hands on books for all my provinces, except New Brunswick and PEI! I guess I'll have to request them via inter-library loan ;-) (or buy them!)

That's great that you'll be able to get most of them through your local library. I've tried to do that with my other challenges, too. I'm fairly lucky in that my library system has a bunch of books set in other countries.

I stopped in the library yesterday and they had a wall set up of NB authors...I wrote down a bunch and told the library about our discussion group. She agreed that NB is one of the most difficult provinces to find literature about, that there are a number of authors from here but that their writing doesn't necessarily reflect that.

Autumn, that's awesome! Thanks for doing that research!

Thanks for telling us about that and doing the research, Autumn!

GateGypsy | 126 comments I have come to the conclusion that I will offer up for sharing as many of the books I am reading for this challenge as I can manage. So, if I must source a book from the library or if it happens to be a Kobo book, I can't pass it on, but practically all the hard copy books I'll be reading I will share. To help, I will repost my list and mark the books that will be available share. I'll also copy this post to the book sharing forum.

All books are set in the province/territory unless otherwise noted.

British Columbia
Seaweed on the Street (Kobo) AND Jade Peony (available for sharing) AND Cure for Death by Lightning (available for sharing)
BC books I'm on the lookout for: Instructions for an Inexperienced Lover (out of print! I want a copy if anyone finds it, but I'm out of luck up here!) AND The Gathering (don't own, can't share)

Yukon
Frontier Spirit (can't share)
(I also own a copy of Bad Latitudes that I'm not sure I'll read, but I'm happy to share it if someone is keen.)

Alberta
Bow Grip (available to share)
AB books I don't own yet (and therefore cannot share) but I'm on the hunt for: Outlander (by Gil Adamson) or The Second Life of Samuel Tyne or The Kappa Child

NWT
Late Nights on Air (available to share) AND Porcupines and China Dolls (can't share) AND (possibly) Spider's Song (can't share)

Saskatchewan
Perfection of the Morning (available to share)

Manitoba
The Flying Troutmans (available to share)
(I also have a copy of A Complicated Kindness if anyone is interested.)

Nunavut
Windflower (available to share) AND The Terror (can't share)

Ontario
Year of the Flood (Ontario author) (not sharing, keeping for collection)

Quebec
Lullabies for Little Criminals (available for sharing)
