Genre: Thriller (action adventure)

The Crucible (Part 1)

Book Description

Some early reader feedback on The Crucible:
'The idea of an insanely evangelicized America is ludicrous.'
'AIDS is not a conspiracy.'
'Love, sex, murder, romance; James Bond meets Tom Clancy.'

Southern Cameroon, West Africa 1936A virus mutated and crossed the barrier from primate to human. In less than a century it had claimed the lives of twenty-five million people. Africa, a land of natural beauty and riches, ripe for plunder, full of dark menace.

In a near future scenario of viral pandemic, global religious conflict, climate change and mass migration, America and the Middle East are locked in a religious fundamentalist race to Armageddon, while the old nations of Europe flex their imperial muscles. Will mankind rediscover the Garden of Eden or ignite the crucible of the apocalypse?

The Europeans are using stealth and Thomas is the most deadly of mercenaries. Any conscience he had died with his wife and children under a blood-soaked African sun. He works for an agency with a taste for righting wrongs on a grand scale - an organisation with deep pockets, altruistic motives and a pragmatic approach to the dispensation of justice.
Greg is a failed philanderer and small-time inventor, struggling to earn a crust for his family. When the enigmatic Thomas steals his identity, Greg is lured into a web of global corruption, conspiracy and murder. But are these unlikely friends really on the side of good or evil?

Ruby Barnes (rubybarnes) Many thanks, Mallory! The Crucible probably won't get to B&N until November but paperback will appear on Amazon this weekend.

Kristin (kplausky) I'll be happy to. Kris.plausky@gmail.com. Epub if possible, pdf if not.

Hey there Ruby! I just started The Baptist by Ruby Barnes today and I am already loving it!

I can't wait to get into it this weekend since I am off and will have more time to read...I don't need to grade the papers for the essay portion of the test my students took today anyway, right? LOL

Any time, loved reading it!

Ruby Barnes (rubybarnes) That's right, Vicki! Let The Baptist purify your thoughts and then mark the papers. You'll see things in a whole new different light ;-)

Ruby Barnes (rubybarnes) Thanks for that great review, Vicki!

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) Guess what? I didn't grade a SINGLE paper! Ugh...they were tests, too. LOL

I give my honest opinion and I really loved it, mainly because of how you got into the mind of a psychopath. That just concerns me a LITTLE bit as to who YOU are! LOL

Ruby Barnes (rubybarnes) Believe me, Vicki, when I say it concerned me too! Needed a break after writing that one.

LOL I hope you took a LONG break! LOL

Your books are not series books, right?

Ruby Barnes (rubybarnes) Ha! I do have the sequel WIP to The Baptist safely hidden in a secret place. It got too scary.
Peril has a sequel that is a bit further along and The Crucible has a sequel which is my current project, aiming to release in October.

Ruby Barnes (rubybarnes) Still open to reviewers ;-)
