Yeah, if it's too much like work, you probably don't want to do it.
If you guys do start blogs, I'd love to hear about it. I'm like you GateGypsy, though; when I do start blogs, I generally don't maintain them real well.

Just a suggestion!

We already have threads sorted by pronvince in the Canadian provinces territories.
I do like your idea of having whole folders reserved for pronvinces. If enough people express interest in it, I'll do that. But right now, we're kinda small, and you're the only person who has brought that up.

It would be wonderful to tie in reading/travelling to those places!

When you mention using Goodreads as an alternative to blogging, what are you thinking of, besides setting up forums by provinces? Say, posting reviews of books you liked?

Taking a cross-country train and stopping at book locations would be nice. I think I'll join you in the daydream. ;)

Your blog looks interesting, Catherine. I didn't realize that women in medieval Iceland had more control over property than their counterparts, either. Most of what I heard about that time period makes it sound depressing to be a woman back then.

Iceland has been pretty remarkable through history. My Women's Studies teacher is quite enamoured with the place ;-)
On a related note, I thougt y'all might be interested in this. It's dedicated to Canadian authors. http://jackleenslibrary.blogspot.com/

Nice, thanks Melissa. I love her Steven Wright quote (hahahah!)!
Jenny, are you going to be using your blog to write reviews for the Around the USA and Read Across Canada groups?

Your blog is impressive!

how would I get in the blog? would be interesting to join in!
Nona, you can start your own blog by signing up on liveJournal or
blogger, and then once you have your blog set up, have written a short biography so people know a little about you, and maybe have your first blog post written, you post a link on here.
If you want to check out a couple blogs to get an idea of what to write for the challenge, you can check out Janice's Around the World blog. She created one for the Around the World challenge that inspired this challenge. Yrinsdale also created a similar blog, Independent Book Review, which she also used for the Around the World Challenge, and will be using it for this challenge.

I started the blog you have linked, but I haven't been updating it in quite a while. Things got a little hectic for me this year.
I noticed you haven't updated it in awhile, but I figure if Nona wants to blog about this, she might want a couple examples.

good idea!
Does anyone want to start a blog with me for this challenge and for the Around the USA in 52 Books group?

So, if we use the Goodreads forum as an alternative to blogging, any suggestions on how to go about it?

Since a couple people asked for an alternative to blogging, I created a folder for it. It'll remain invisible until someone adds a topic to it.

Just setting myself up to read people's reviews and realized you asked me this twice and I never answered :) Mainly I just want to read the feedback people give for books/authors. I just chose Follow Reviews for everyone who had the option set in the group, so that will probably feed my curiosity. Not that I'm taking the idea off the table or anything!
But considering that Place is what is bringing all of these books together, maybe we can set up some kind of place-oriented questions...like how is the setting important to the development of the story- be it through the author's orientation having lived there or how does the importance of place play a role? I personally feel that Canadian culture is very much oriented to place and space, that everyone sort of exists in a cultural border-space...not to get too heady or anything! :)
