To celebrate the release of my third novel in the World of Samar series, The Star of Eldon, I thought I'd commemorate the moment with this question: if you find an author you really like, do you read everything he or she has or do you find yourself getting bored and wanting to try something different?

Personally, if I find an author I like, I tend to go on a binge and read everything he or she has.

Sharon L. Sherman (slsherman) | 2 comments I read everything written by an author I like for as long as they keep getting published. "Binge-ing" is a good word for it with mystery/intrigue stories, but when I wait for a new book to come out I tend to pick up on someone else who already has a lot of books out there and start a new thread!

Debra (moxyroxart) | 1 comments I am loyal to the Authors that I like, I try to read more of what they have written.

Emily | 4 comments I read everything that they have written. I might not be able to read all of their books right away because I have a TBR list a mile long.

Ditto

I read everything!

Sheila | 8 comments I will try to get and read all the books of an author I like but it becomes overwhelming when the author is prolific. I like series so, sometimes, when an author writes something outside the series, I do not always like the non-series books. I think I prefer when an author writes different genres without doing a series.

message 8: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Cerrato | 6 comments I usually will read everything by that author. The other books go right on my to read list.

Seems to be a consensus here. ; )

message 10: by Racheal (new)

Racheal I'm afraid I break away from the pack there. I don't look specifically at an author at all. Only in the case of a series of course. Once I've completed a book I don't seek out that author again but another amazing book regardless of who wrote it.

Theresa (reesasbookcountdowngoodreadscom) | 4 comments I will continue reading books from the same author if I really liked one of their books- usually not back to back though.

I'm the same when it comes to series. If I really enjoyed the first book or two in a series I will stick with the series. I've done duos, trilogies and even 10 and over book series. Other than that, if I like an author's style of writing, I am generally willing to at least check out their other books but it has to have a story that fits my interests.

Debra | 1 comments Once I encounter an author I like, I will read their other books as well. Especially if there is a series.

Sanchi (SunniLovestoreas) | 1 comments I can go both ways with that one. There are some authors I enjoy trying most of their books and then there are authors that I just read the book I am reading and continue on in my list of tbr books unless I come across another book by that author that appeals to me. I am a little partial to authors I love, and then I would love to give every author I come across an equal opportunity to sway me toward their work too. I do not get bored to answer the rest of it. lol

message 15: by Nan (new)

Nan (nanawa8) | 1 comments I'm mixed about this. Most of the time I will read the whole series and any other books the author has written. Once in awhile I have to step away from the series, especially if the author has started recycling parts of other stories over and over. I have been known to put down a book for awhile when it gets repetitive and go on to another author for awhile.
I'm rather eclectic in my reading and often skip from one genre to another from day to day, depending on the mood I'm in and the flow of the story. I have also been known to stay up all night to finish a book I have become thoroughly involved in reading.

message 16: by Robin (new)

Robin (robinmitnick) | 1 comments Sometimes, depends on the genre. I do have several authors whose books I have read most of.

message 17: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 1 comments I don't read a book necessarily because I've liked a previous book by the author. However, when I'm searching for a new book to read, I will begin my search by checking out other books written by authors I've enjoyed. If the books description interests me, I'll read it.

message 18: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nandeva) | 1 comments Yes, I totally become obsessed with an author I like and read every single book he/she has! However, I alternate between authors so that I take a break so as not to get bored.

message 19: by Marla (new)

Marla (rungirlkc) When I find a new author and I like the first book I've read, then I devour every book they have ever written. Then I watch for new books by that author. There are several authors I watch but I also love finding new authors.

message 20: by Cyndee (new)

Cyndee Thomas | 4 comments I do read more books by the same author. I like to find new authors too.I have a few favorite authors that I read all the books they have written.

message 21: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jaxbee) | 1 comments I read everything they've written... until I get bored. And, I'm afraid, if this happens I'm just so disappointed that I tend not to go back to them. Writing this down has made me realise that's a little harsh.

; ) I understand though. I've done that myself.

message 23: by Saisha (new)

Saisha | 1 comments If I like an author I will try to read the books of theirs that interest me, there can be a author that I like who has written some books I won't read because of the subject matter...

message 24: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (literarycat) | 2 comments I read everything I can by that author. There are some that I got bored with but there are others that just thrill me everytime I read something new of theirs. I think what helps is I don't read all their books at once, I space it out.

message 25: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 3 comments when I find a book I like...I tend to seek out any other books by the same author as well...and read them all..I like so many authors, though, that my tbr list has grown exponentially and geometrially! :)

message 26: by Holly (new)

Holly | 1 comments If an author has written a series I buy all the books for the series. I feel that if I'm going to invest my time into one of their books then I should invest the time into the full series. I typically read the books back to back, and sometimes I'll wait until the full series is complete before I'll start reading the books simply because I don't want to wait for publications.
If I find that the author has other books either as individuals or other series in the genre's I like I will pick them up and read them as well. I like discovering new authors. A lot of the authors I've found have been because I took a chance on picking up as much of the series as I could purchase and just started to read the books. However, it can be hard to stay on top of all the reading material. :)

message 27: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie Bandy (bobbiecbandy) | 1 comments I'll read everything by an author I like, unless I find a series they've written that I don't care for. I won't waste my time there. But I will, at least give it a try.

message 28: by Catherine (last edited Oct 12, 2012 08:12PM) (new)

Catherine | 3 comments I must add...I will not read consecutive books by the same author...I usually will mix it up....even if I am reading a series...because..I need variety. this doesn't mean I won't read any other books by the same author...just that I need a break from the subject matter :)..whether it's historical, mystery, romance....just a change in venue!

message 29: by Cyndee (new)

Cyndee Thomas | 4 comments I read many times all the books written by one author but I will change up if the Author does not have a book to hold me.Examples are Janet Evanovich(Plum series)James Patterson(not all the Alex Cross) or may Kay Andrews..I have read everyone. Someone I love but have not read everything is Stephen King in the 1990's till now but 1963..was very good!
I love to read:)

message 30: by April (new)

April | 1 comments I will read everything by that author. I can't stand starting a series and not finishing so even if I don't enjoy it, I will keep reading to figure out what happens.

message 31: by Cyndee (new)

Cyndee Thomas | 4 comments oh, did you read/or read Janet Evanovich..Stephanie Plum series? The new one 18,I think, will be out soon.

I haven't read her, but I've been recommended her before. I'm looking for a new author to follow, so I'll give her a try.

I love to find an author that hooks me because then I know I'll get a level of quality for the book. I'm afraid I'm something of a snob with my limited reading time. I want characters I care about and little grammatical issues. If you hit those two buttons for me, I'm hooked and I'll cough up a lot of money to keep that quality.

Catherine | 3 comments after reading the synopsis...I will decide on whether or not to read a book..that said..just take a peek at my tbr list...which has grown geometrically and exponentially in the past year! I think it is breeding..lol

I look at the title...and if that interests me..I will go further....if I like one books by an author...I will get other books by the same person...whether it is a series or a one shot read.
