Hide and Seek (The Lying Game, #4) Hide and Seek question

theory that ethan is the killer

I've thought it was Ethan since the first book. He always acts a little suspicious and he does seem to know a lot more about Sutton than he should. He also is the most computer savvy of all the characters.

Yep. I'm sure it's Ethan. If it isn't, then this series is going to turn into pretty little liars soon enough and everyone will become a suspect. Or she'll bring in a new character who will immediately become a suspect.

that is so true and does seem like he has a lot to hide. Plus in the first book Sutton said in one of her flash backs that "Ethan probably has a lot do with her life". Hint!!she could be saying that to give us a clue of who did it. Plus Sutton said through books 2-5 that he was not always present at his house, so he could easily be trying to hunt her down excpecailly he could be using his telescope to watch her every move.

And wouldn't the killer kill him already in the second book for finding out, because the killer did try to kill Emma because she tried to spill the secret to her family in the first book. And he keeps giving hints on why he would do it for example he said he does not like Thayer because he "feels like Thayer has everything handed to him" really Thayer has everything handed to him the only thing Thayer has ever had handed to him was Sutton.

Ethan did have a crush on her and how we know this is because in the 2nd book Ethan was describing so many things about Sutton to Emma that only her friends would have known.

And he did say he was always waiting around for Sutton to give him a proper thank you for saving her life in Sabino Canyon, maybe he is implying that he wanted a date with her.

And Emma could be his one chance to finally date Sutton because she looks exactly like her.

I think Ethan is the killer too. My reason he would have killed Sutton would be because he had feelings for Sutton but then Sutton was caught by him making out with Thayer. He lost his temper and ran down Thayer and killed Sutton. That's why he went off so much when he caught Emma kissing Thayer. He called Emma a slut and said she's just like her sister! I also think that when he found out that Emma had seen his file but hadn't read it, he quickly made up a convincing story about why he was in the Physc ward. Nisha was still worried for Emma so she went back and read the file and found out the truth about Ethan, then she called Emma to warn her but Ethan got to her first and killed her (Which is also the reason he was late to the family dinner at Sutton's house)

I think it would be too obvious at this point. The fifth book really made it seem like it might be him. Especially after Emma got a threat from the killer when she was about to meet Ethan and he got there late. But I'm hoping its a red herring, because then it wouldn't be surprising at all.

Reasons why its him:
-He remembers random details about Sutton even if they weren't really friends at all
-He knew Emma wasn't Sutton right away and her own family didn't know
-He hates Thayer so much, because he was jealous and obsessed with her, and probably ran him over
-He's good with computers and hacking, he could've hacked Charlotte's alarm system
-He has motive because of the scholarship prank
-I really didn't believe his story about his dad and his mom about the record he has at the hospital
-He was there the night Sutton died at the canyon
-We don't know where he was the night she died
-He always agrees with Sutton about who the killer is, even if it sounds ridiculous

One main reason I don't think it could be him is because whenever Sutton gets a part of her memory back, it involves Emma and a person being in contact. Emma has been alone with Ethan a million times before and it never sparked a memory for Sutton.

I'm hoping it isn't him, I like being surprised especially after a 6 book long series. I do think he killed Nisha, because she looked up the files on Ethan at the hospital to try and protect Sutton to make sure he wasn't dangerous. And she found something about him being crazy obsessive or violent. And maybe he did run over Thayer, but I hope he didn't kill Sutton. At least I hope not or I'll be really disappointed.

I thought that I still kinda do but I think the author wanted us to think that, she knew we would all assume it was Ethat and we did. Maybe that's her twist. or not

I been thinking that since the first book, you never know- Cause maybe he has a secret crazy side- or Maybe it's Becky could have done it ( I'm on Cross my heart and hope to Die)What Sara Shepard taught us all-Never say Never( got that from the second book, its not Justin Bieber I swear)

I never really thought about it, but Ethan is a serious possible suspect for Sutton's murder. All of the points make sense, he hasn't been officially cleared because he's the only insider into Emma's situation, but he does have motive to kill Sutton. And it would be clever to befriend Emma just to keep off her radar. I think someone else might be working with him, because how on earth would Ethan know the code to the Chamberlains' alarm system? I suppose since he is the most tech-savvy...

I also think her killer could be some random character mentioned only in passing. For some reason, Mr. Chamberlain seems sketchy to me...just because he was in the home the night Sutton was attacked, and because he happened to be the first one Emma met when she arrived in Tucson. What a coincidence, huh?

I've always thought it might be Ethan just because Emma always assumes he has nothing to do with it. Plus he keeps shooting Thayer nasty looks, maybe because he's worried Thayer saw him the night Sutton was killed

I don't think it's Ethan, because in a flashback in Hide and Seek Sutton saw Ethan outside his house and mentioned that he was dork/ geek, then moved on very blithely. She said it in a way that made in seem like they didn't know each other well, and have no previous connection.I think Sutton would have felt much more strongly for Ethan both in flashback and in ghost world if he was her killer.

I defiantly agree. I suspected Ethan from the beginning because he was never really cleared because Emma liked him. And I think someone else is helping too because sometimes Emma feels watched in his company. But most of the time when something bad happens to Emma, Ethan is not present.

ok so i have read cross my heart hope to die 3 times now just to make sure i didnt miss anything and Ethan is number 1 on my suspect list here are the reasons:

1. nothing has happened to him even though he knows that the twins exist and Suttons dead
2. Nisha is dead and he wasnt at school and he was supposably getting his mum stuff
3. he showed up at the amusement park after Emma and then when Emma went to her car there was suprise suprise a note from the killer
4. he has a file
5. he didnt want Emma to go into the records because of his file (that she didnt read dam!)
6. he knew straight away Emma wasnt Sutton
7. he disliked Sutton because she made him lose his scholarship over a prank

so thats all i can think of but theres probably more... so this may seem crazy but this is what i think and hope happened.

Ethan was pissed at Sutton because she did the lying game on him and when he saved her from a prank she was ungrateful and it all lead to him killing her. But shes not really dead shes in a coma somewhere and her ghost is attached to Emma because there twins and have that connection. Ethan then panicked about "killing" Sutton and hacked her fb page to come up with a cover story when he saw Emmas message so he got Emma to come and take over Suttons life but he knew that Emma would want to find the killer so he pretended to notice that Emma wasnt acting like Sutton and befriend her and help her find out who "killed" Sutton. So as hes helping her he may or may not have feelings for her and Emma is getting closer to the truth and then when she wants to look at the records he got angry but was relieved when she notice hes but didnt look and he knew she didnt look because it says stuff that would make her suspect him but he tells her a lie about his dad and mum to get her off that trail but because Emma was drunk she told Nisha and Nisha didnt buy it so she broke into the records herself and read Ethans file and when she found out what was in it she freaked and rang "Sutton"(Emma) and then I'm not sure but i think other:
- when "Sutton" (Emma) didnt answer she confronted Ethan and he panicked and killed her or
- when she was trying to ring "Sutton" (Emma) Ethan overheard something and killed her

i dont know what was in his file but i think maybe he had counselling sessions and said he hated the real Sutton and wished she was dead or maybe was really violent or something....
anywayz feel free to comment your theorys below I'd love to hear them =)

I agree Ethan might be the killer. Maybe he's trying to get back at her because sutton treated him bad.

I just finished reading Hide and Seek about 50 minutes ago and the whole time I was just thinking "Who's left? Who could be the killer?" All the flashbacks, All of the revelations, I just don't know what to do with it. And then I thought "Ethan!" was he ever cleared? But in a flashback he was on his lawn in a Ghost Sutton flashback when she finally got in the car with her dad/grandpa. But is she really even dead? or in some comatose state and her ghost is like tethered to Emma? And there is no killer but someone who thinks they killed her but actually put her in a coma? Because I really hope she isn't dead. But what if it's Becky? Even though part of me knows it's just an author trick because she wouldn't make it so obvious . . . or would she? I don't know, my mind is going into overdrive trying to figure this out. I know I'll find out eventually, but the suspense is killing me. :)

I agree as well, Ethan might be the killer. Sutton treated him bad when she was alive.

I agree Ethan's the killer. I think he may have had a crush on Sutton at some point which was why he seemed to know so many details about her considering how little he knew her. Running over Thayer would then make sense. We also now know the driver had dark hair which matches Ethan.

Maybe, but I don’t know. Is this going to be the conclusion to the series, anyway?

I think Ethan killed Sutton because out of all of her friends and family, he realized it wasnt the real Sutton. And he didnt even know Sutton that well!!!!!! So it makes absolutely no sense that he would recognize an imposter unlesss he knew something!! And he was at the poetry bar down the road from where she was killed on the night that she was killed!!! He is also, constantly telling Emma not to go searching for things. I cannot wait for July!
