How can a guy stay grumpy and curmudgeonly watching ... this... ?

Anita also sent me a wonderful write-up with some not so usual pets--I shall have to ask her for photos...hint, hint...
I also gave our group a membership plug; hopefully, more people from my blog-hop (something else new to me) will take a look at us here.
Check out the stories at:

Thanks Inge. I just read it and that's a wonderful piece. Thank you. I will let my sister know to look at it.

Thank you for adding those interesting discussion-threads. I love reading about all our pets here, so many of them rescued and all of them now loved.

Curmudgeon, I see what you mean about it being a menace and a hazard. I had to use huge willpower to stop watching that or nothing would have got done today. Thanks for posting!

Tonight, I am going to watch the Westminster Dog Show--yes, they are highly-bred, pampered and pouffed, shampooed and shined...still, I am always astounded at the diversity of the doggie-world (because here in Arkansas, all dogs seem to be related carrying a trace of EVERYTHING--at least the ones we get at the shelter--although, there have been a surprising number of "pure-breds").
All are amazing creatures.

I like watching them just to hear about the breed.

Maybe what type of service they are trained for when they are service dogs. I know there are different types of dogs who do different services.
Also, how they originated. Example: you know how some dogs were brought to the USA from Scotland. You could do something like that. Their history...how they came to be.

Click on my profile picture and see how big the wolf paw print is to my ruler.

I just finished reading a fiction book about a horse, Wild Blue: The Story of a Mustang Appaloosa by Annie Wedekind, that I thought was really good.
This book is told from the horse's point of view, and the author does a good job of incoorporating natural horse behavior into the book so that the story feels very real.
Although told for Juvenile readers, I think all ages that like horses, especially wild ones, will like this book. I found the book, as a print book, from one of the library book sales so I don't know if it is available as an ebook or not. All I know is that I really liked it, and thought I would share this books information with the group in case any one else would be interested in reading it.

Thanks Melissa. I really hope more members start talking and joining in.

BTW I searched for an e-book of the Wild Blue book mentioned by Jennifer in the post above and couldn't find an e-book version on Amazon. :(

If you mean the wolf paw print, no. It's just a wolf. I live in the north, so the wolves are a bit larger than many people down south are used to.

I meant to come back to this thread earlier, but did you need the link to the blog?
If you do here it is: http://animalsandmagic.wordpress.com/
You can also easily get to the blog, specific blog posts, and see upcoming ones here: http://www.mortalrealmwitch.com/whats...

I live in NZ where we don't have any wolves at all except in a zoo.
Anyone watching the TV show "Mountain Men"? The guy was worried about wolves when his dog got lost. Wolves won't let anyone enter their territory without coming after you.
Luckily his dog was found. They were chasing a mountain lion out of the territory. The guy doesn't kill them just tries to chase them away with his dogs.

What breed of dog? Tough cross breeds/mongrels, big dogs?

The bunnies haven't changed at all.
Now here's the fun part. Due to Taco's slight weight loss he is now a full pound lighter than bunny Kojikaki and a pound and a half lighter than Chibi.

In size, the bunnies are both a little shorter than Taco. Being Mini Rex's the rabbits are a dwarf breed and one of the smallest breeds around. Normally the bunnies weigh between five and five and a half pounds, which they do right now.
Taco is actually bigger than a lot of Chihuahua's. For him, he is normally six pounds, but right now he is four, which is still normal for a Chihuahua but not for mine, so right now he is a tiny dog.
This photo collage that I recently uploaded shows how Taco and Chibi compare in size: http://www.goodreads.com/photo/group/...
Looking at the photos, if I hadn't said, would any of you guys have been able to guess who weighs more?

At the event I met many new and amazing dogs. While my own dog was not able to come with I was rarely ever without a dog. This was very different from my experience at the previous event I attended-Mutt Strutt 2013 with the Lake County Humane Society, where I only really got to know my neighboring dog, a white Boxer.
This time I got to know several dogs pretty well during the day which varied greatly in breed and size. During the day I got to know some Chihuahua's, Chihuahua mixes, Golden Retrievers, and a lot of others as well. My biggest visiting group consisted of three Golden Retrievers, one of which was very reluctant to leave my table when his owner was ready to go even though my table only consisted of books and decorations and all the surrounding people had dog food, treats-including samples, and dog toys.
My favorite of the day was a large mixed breed that was possibly part German Shepherd or something similar-I'm not really sure due to the fact that I probably have the worst memory of anyone I know. Anyway I didn't know it at first, I thought this was just another dog coming over because he wanted attention like the others, but it turned out that this dog was a therapy dog. Of course I didn't know it because I had never known a therapy dog before, but while this dog was leaning against me his owner told my mom and myself about the dog. Apparently this dog has really good instincts even for a therapy dog and never needs any time to adjust to a new room or location. The first thing he always does is find whoever he feels needs him the most. Somehow he decided he needed to come over to see me.
It had been cold all day so I found a spot on the ground where the sun was on occasion and stayed there for most of the event. That's where I happened to be when the therapy dog came. It took a while to figure out why the dog came over to me, but eventually between the owners knowledge of his dog and how hard I felt him leaning against me we finally figured out that he had come over to warm me up.
Although I loved being with him, if I do the event again next year I plan on bringing a coat, after all I may not be lucky enough to have a dog like him around.
During the day I also had my picture taken a few times, and not just by my mom! During the day, the owner of the Golden Retriever that really liked me asked if she could take a picture of us together. Hopefully she will remember to email me the pic. Also a radio station, Cougar 93.7, took a photo which featured myself, my mom, a couple of dogs I met that day, and two people I saw that day one of which happened to be one of my cousins!
