When someone gets this, could they post a list of the stories for me? I already have Necronomicon The Best Weird Tales, First Printing, Commemorative Edition by H.P. Lovecraft from when I was at university, and I imagine most of them are in there.

Please and thank you! :)

Thanks, Jo :) I imagine there probably is a newer edition, but I doubt the contents has changed that much. I guess we'll see!

FebruaryStars | 22 comments I might actually have the time to read and join in this month! (yay!). Plus I've been wanting to read some Lovecraft for a while now and this would give me a good excuse.

I put it on my kindle but bought his complete stories which was much cheaper than At the Mountains of Madness & Other Novels of Terror (Omnibus 1) by H.P. Lovecraft The Complete Works of H.P. Lovecraft by H.P. Lovecraft .

They have previews on Amazon for anyone who is interested in reading the contents page.

Read 37 pages, so far 'novels of terror' seems to be pushing it a bit but hopefully it will get scarier

I started to read this but I think I need to be in the right frame of mind. I felt bogged down in, seemingly, insignificant details and started to wonder if the stories would really work for me. I know older tales are all about building up the suspense but this seems like one of those more stuffy/formalised ways of writing - does anyone else know what I am rambling on about?

I do indeed - 'get on with it' is what I was mainly thinking during the first story!

message 10: by FebruaryStars (new)

FebruaryStars | 22 comments There are a lot of unnecessary details like latitudes and longitudes and a lot of waffle to get through. I think it is mainly to do with the style that a lot of the older authors in this area fall into because I remember feeling the same way about books like the time machine and Gullivers travels. I know they are much older but they have a similar very formal tone. I will persevere and hopefully get to some action soon :) I'm not holding out much hope for actual terror though

I get like this sometimes, Sam. I find reading something I love helps, even if it's just a chapter or two to get me started again :)

I do too, and to be honest this isn't the book I'd recommend to get your mojo back!
Come join in the Fevre Dream reading instead! :)

I'm reading a Nicholas Sparks book on my kindle to become unstuck. I was breezing through Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin but when I put it down and then went back to it I ran out of steam and I started forcing myself to read it. I've just read half of Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks in a day and that's only reading when the kids are in bed. I find his books nice and light:) When I finish it I'll start Fevre Dream which I think you'll like x
