I just read it and no, you don't need to have read the others, although they would be familiar to you if you DID read them. I read the first but not the second/third and I was fine with it. I had some other issues with the book, but it was enjoyable, and VERY imaginative first sexy-scene I thought was cool.

I liked their first date--hilarious.
The first sex scene kinda reminded me of the Anne Rice Mayfaire witches books.

This is a fun series I'm glad I had the opportunity to read - it's not the sort of thing I ever would have picked for myself. A pleasant surprise!
The men in all these books are very much Alpha males - (there is a lot of "Mine!"), but their love interests seem to call them on it and stand their ground, which I liked.

I liked the main character Grace. She was strong, not a helpless female. I think must of us can relate to her everyday struggles.
I liked the world enough to probably go back and read the others in the series. I thought the author did a great job at drawing me into this alternate world where other magical beings live with humans.

I'm with you I was also confused over the prophecy and the dragon guy and I'm sure there was something else going on but I never quite figured out what it was. lol. So now that I've finished the book I can say that I liked it. I appreciated the type of relationships Kahlil ad Grace had. He seems to be a pretty big alpha male, and Grace just does what she wants anyway, my kind of woman!
I don't think I'm going to read the rest of the books but I ca say that I'm very interested in Pheadra (is that how you spell it, I don't have the book with me). I want to know more about her and how she's doing now that she's managed to put herself back together. She was hardly in the books but I felt a strange connection to her.

I didn't read the previous books and didn't notice any problems from that.

My favorite in this series is the 3rd book w/Rune and the vampire chick. I also really enjoyed the 1st one after I had a good laugh at what kind of Weyr Pia really was.

Oooo so Oracle's Moon was the weakest huh? now a may really look into reading the others. Thanks.

I'm predicting that smut will start appearing within the next 50 pages, right now they're just having various types of heated interactions.

I assume that is what it would be like to have sex with Dr Manhattan from Watchmen
I find there is alot going on 'elsewhere' that involves these characters minimally as they don't really have much to do with it. I guess that is to keep it in line with the series thoughI don't believe there is enough going on in this book for the bigger picture that you would even have to read this one to enjoy the series. I have chosen to ignore the bigger picture though as I have not read the three books before and concentrate on what I am given with the story of these characters.
I REALLY like Grace, yes there is an immaturity at times, but her sisters kids of which she always refers to as "her kids" are her top priority. Her surreal situation was mixed well with a very real/modern situation. If fact I love how the whole world is still very real but the fantasy is mixed in as if it was always a part of it. I find I really like when the whole world is also aware of the fantasy elements, they are not hidden. I have read a lot of urban fantasies where it is hidden and have gotten tired of them so this is a nice change.
I like the way their relationship progressess and that she changes Kahlils perseption of mortals though with the aid of the children.

I find there is too much going on 'elsewhere' that involves these..."
I had the same thought about Dr. Manhattan - I think sex with either him or Kahlil would be pretty interesting :)
I was a bit confused with a lot of the background stuff that relates to the overall arc of the series initially, but I felt like it was done well enough that I could put that aside enough and focus on the relationship. I liked it a lot overall, and in no small part because of some great smut.
But I also really like the world, and that and the background plot intrigued me enough to get the first in the series. Also really good, and its shaping up to be a good series.
The one thing that bugs me just a tiny bit, both in this book and in the first, is how the main male characters both start off strong sounding a lot like you might think those "non-humans" would sound - like they're completely unfamiliar with some modern concepts, items, and language, because they just don't have the urge or inclination to bother with human stuff. But then somewhere along the line they morph into conversations that seem totally normal (and you have to think, even if they're non-human and don't function in the same way, they'd pick up on current stuff if they'd been around for millennia), so I got confused as to which was the real voice.
Thumbs up overall.

I had some trouble with the fact that all the sexy dialog was "hissed" it just got to be a bit much for me.
However I will be amused for some time at "achieving pancakes"

I was a little confused the first couple chapters sorting through the initial events, but it got clearer as I went through the book.
I really liked Grace. She was a strong character dealing with a difficult situation. I also really liked Kahlil, I agreed with a previous poster about the "not really alpha more father figure" comment. The development of both characters was my favorite part of this book.
One thing I enjoyed about reading not the first book of the series is not getting bogged down in world building. The world in this series is so very cool but complex.
I enjoyed this book much more then Ill Wind.

agreed on the sex-scene - very imaginative, as well as probably some of the most natural sex-scenes I've had a chance to read in a while (that's saying something as I've been reading a lot of smutxs-f thanks to VF).
I could compare the ease with which they were written with 'Kushiel-Phedre' thrilogy. With Phedre&Joscelin Even if they were s&m, they made sense and fit the characters and their personalities. While Khalil changed a lot more than David did in the 'Weather Warden' series, which was something I have against this month's main pick, they didn't have the gorgeous build-up that I appreciated in Desperate Duchesses.
The attraction they felt for each-other felt a bit rushed, and the background characters and threat weren't as thrilling in my opinion.

I am going to have to re-read that... I feel like I read it, after reading the first few Vampire novels, when I was a little too young to.

The sex scenes really didn't work for me, I was sort of freaked out by the extra hands/mouth sensations. I kept thinking of Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen and that really didn't work for me!

It was nice to be able to read from Kahlil's perspective, and I found their first date to be quite entertaining. And literally laughed out loud with Kahlil's matter-of-fact tone when telling Rune and Carling about his date with Grace. "She is my friend. We are going on a date tonight... I am to dress casually"
I will be sending THIS book to the girls but we rarely discuss the alt anyway so it's really up to you guys which book seems better for your tastes. This one has some racy smut in it FOR SURE!
