Which one are you two talking about? I Am God or A Deeper Darkness?

message 5: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) I was talking about I Am God, I know Mish and I are planning to read it next month. But I might read Mystic River next week

message 6: by Brenda, Suspense lover! (new)

I thought you were Michael, but I thought our 'thriller' Michael was talking about the other one;P

I haven't received Mystic River yet, but I'll get both of them read before the time is up:)

message 7: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) I just bought 26 books for $38 in a Good Samaritan book shop. I think I have a problem.

I think the problem is that you need more reading time

I'm unemployed, how much more reading time can there possibly be?! :D

message 11: by Brenda, Suspense lover! (new)

Brenda | 11956 comments Mod
Haha!! Well, Toby, I think you should list those 26 books you just purchased, linking them so we can check them out...then cross them off as you read them;P

message 12: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) Honestly I dont think I will read more than half of them, mostly spur of the moment purchases because they were just so cheap. The ones I'm looking forward to on the other hand:

A Judgement in Stone
Crime of Silence
News of a Kidnapping
Mash: A Novel About Three Army Doctors
Fat City
A Cat, a Man, and Two Women

One transaction. All for really good prices on the Book Depository.

message 17: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) oh no. Books just arrived in the mail. Big books. That I pre-ordered three months ago. Damn you internet!!!

1Q84: Book 1 and Book 2
1Q84: Book Three

I read that as one book, try that :P

message 19: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) It's been hard not rushing out and buying it but I knew I had to wait for multiple parts because it was just too big for my brain to comprehend even trying to read.

I initially bought the three book boxset from America 1Q84 but the quality of the binding and the paper was too poor so I waited even longer for the British version which should have also been published in three rather than two volumes but for some reason wasn't.

message 20: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) I do like that box set, too bad I didn't think much of the book

message 25: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) This morning I went book shopping. Again. Added to my TBR shelves:
And The Ass Saw The Angel
The Road

Somebody should take my debit card away from me

message 26: by Brenda, Suspense lover! (new)

Brenda | 11956 comments Mod
I'm sure your wife would be happy to do that Toby;)

You haven't read The Road before?

message 27: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) Seen the movie but figured at $2 i could probably read the book at some point.

If she takes my card away theres no books for her either. No win situation i guess :)

message 28: by Brenda, Suspense lover! (new)

Brenda | 11956 comments Mod
Haha!! I guess you get to keep it then;P

I haven't seen the movie, and had the book lent to me by my son. I wasn't sure what to make of it, but I can still remember the main points of it, and the 'strangeness' of the story...so that's a good thing I guess. But you're right, $2 is a great price, you shouldn't leave it there for that!!

Jamaica Inn and Rebecca are great stories.

Was it busier than usual today Toby?

message 42: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) Hard to say, i've not worked for two months but totals were about average i guess.

message 43: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) Did they put much focus on National Bookshop Day. I was at my local indie bookshop and they seemed to be the busiest with all the activities

message 44: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) As I said, none of us had any idea, in any of the five shops. No wonder the business isn't thriving.

message 45: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) That's not good

Where from?

Toby (tfitoby) Michael wrote: "That's not good"

Yeah for me it sums up the approach of the business at present and the issues within the management. Headless chickens come to mind.

Makes me wonder if they are actually thinking towards the future of books, I wish I was in the bookseller industry there is so much I feel like they are blind to that I wish I was able to help

Happily there's six of those shops around Perth. But they usually have the books in trade paperback format which is way too big for me to read, so I have to wait until I find the books I want in one of the shops.
