Dax | 9 comments Hello, I have just heard that there is an official Redwall Video Game being made. With the official artist of the book series doing the art for the game.

So I have a question for you. If you don't know Brian Jacques wasn't fond of video games and didn't want Redwall to be turned into one.

What are your thoughts on a video game being made? Is it disrespectful?

The gamer part of me loves this news, the Redwall fan is also excited about this is also excited.

Although the Redwall fan of me also doesn't like this because I know Brian Jacques didn't care for them.

Badgerlord | 7 comments I can't decide on disrespectful or not. It's offical, so would they have to have his family's permission? Who do ownership and royalties go to? Sorry if any of this was explained on the site, it's not loading properly for me. And I'm impatient.

Hey, maybe this will bring people who don't like reading into the Redwall series.

Anyway, I'm excited.

Dax | 9 comments It just says the Redwall Abbey company. Whoever owns that.
I was reading comments around the web and I know some fans of the series are pissed that this is being made.
So I figured it might make a good topic here :)

Another thing is that the artist knew Brian personally, so why would he work on it if it is disrespectful.

I wanted to let everyone know that I heard news of this project taking off and that they are going to launch a kickstarter very soon.

How do you know that Brian Jacgues didn't want there to be a video game? I am curious because I work at a company that recently got the rights to make up to three Redwall games. I would like to know if there is a web page somewhere that has this information on it. Can you provide me with a link so I can look further into this please?

Hey Troy!
Super glad to have you in the group. Along with interviews where Mr. Jacques expressed his dislike for video games, there is a Q&A on the official website where he claims to "dislike such things". I am a big gamer, but I will not be playing the Redwall game as I believe it would not have pleased Mr. Jacques to have his literature, which is meant to encourage reading, turned into a video game, which is an entirely different genre of entertainment.

Here is the link for the Q&A, the question about video games is near the bottom of the first page:

Troy Parker | 14 comments Thank you for the link. I appreciate it. I may have a link soon to share here that will be an interview with some one that was close to Brian Jacques. From what I understand his problem was not with games, but that games if a game where made it would only be around for a short time where as a book would be around for a long duration of time. Due to modern technology this has changed. Games can be around for a long time as long as you continue to upgrade them. An example of this is World of Warcraft. It has been around for many years, and will continue to be around for many to come because the company that made it will continue to spend money on it to keep it up to date. I do appreciate your concern.

I can hardly believe that the makers behind the Redwall game have the resources that Blizzard does with WoW, haha. Regardless, I am sure the game will be spectacular :) to be quite honest though, I still probably won't play it. I don't typically like cyber renditions of my favorite books.

Dax | 9 comments First off. I am glad to see some activity in this group haha

Anyways. Anne, they may not have the resources of blizzard, but that doesn't mean it wont be around forever. It will however be around forever through digital means on the internet. it wont be as popular as wow just because wow at the time was groundbreaking. Also people don't like anthro animals as much in the gaming world. Sure some do survive like Sly Cooper, but it isn't as popular as other games.

I did not know the reason that because video games wont be around forever was Mr. Jacques reason for disliking games. Also he didn't say he hated them. Knowing this reason.

I think he didn't want a game made because he didn't want people to get so addicted to it that they stopped reading.

Which I do see his point. I agree. Though I think people will get addicted to games and not read regardless of if it were a Redwall game's fault or not.

One thing I do want to hear. According to what I read a while back when I made this thread. Is that. The artist who did the art for the books was/is doing the art for this game. So being that he actually worked with Brian Jacques, and had to have known his feelings about a game being made. Why did he agree to do the art? I want to hear from him, and Brian Jacques' family members their opinion on a game being made and their opinion on it regarding to Mr. Jacques' stance on games.

Troy Parker | 14 comments Well I have heard that the making of a Redwall Game started getting put into place a few years before he passed away. (God Rest is Soul.)And a few years latter it is finally growing some legs. This is a link to the Kickstarter for the officially licensed Redwall Game we finally launched.

Sydney | 3 comments I remember reading in an interview or a Q and A of some sort with Brian Jacques that he said he didn't want any Redwall games. To be honest, it's a really cool idea, but I feel like it is disrespectful to his wishes.
