Bill | 4 comments I intended to borrow this book from my workplace bookshelf, but we had a flood and all the books were ruined. Several people recall reading it but no one knows the title or author.

I thought it might be by Dean Koontz but have been told it may not be. All I recall from what I skimmed is a car accident in the beginning, and soon after a baby being born who becomes a "demon seed" type child.
FWIW, it would have been before 2005, though the book could have been much older. I know it was paperback, and I think the cover was mostly red & black in color, possibly with a sinister looking tree on it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Bryan457 | 285 comments Probably not this one, but I'll put it out there just in case. It has a plane wreck at the beginning, and the demon child, but I don't see a cover that matches. Reborn by F. Paul Wilson

Bill | 4 comments Thanks, that's not it

Kagama-the Literaturevixen | 599 comments From the Corner of His Eyehas a car accident happening when the mother is going to the hospital to give birth.

And the baby is abnormally smart.

Pearl Taylor | 3 comments The book could also be "The Door to December" which is a Dean Koont book but he wrote it as Richard Paige.

"A truly suspenseful novel of a mother who must save her daughter from a threat she can hardly understand. What happened to nine-year-old Melanie during the six years she was subjected to terrifying experiments? And what is the unstoppable power that she can unleash from behind the “Door to December”?

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 121 comments At the moment, I can only think of one other Koontz book that has a demon seed theme. Oddly, it's not the one title Demon Seed, which is about AI.

The Servants of Twilight by Dean Koontz The Servants of Twilight by Dean Koontz The Servants of Twilight by Dean Koontz
The Servants of Twilight (various covers above) starts with a religious cult claiming that Joey, Christine's son, is the antichrist. Throughout the book they do everything in their power to kill him and the reader begins to question whether the cult is correct. Joey is not an infant though.

It's not Koontz, but I did read It's Alive by Richard Woodley, with a terrifying newborn.

Jayme | 159 comments Cradle and All by Zachary Alan Fox This cover looks like what you may be talking about. I was actually going to suggest James Patterson's Cradle and All by James Patterson but the above cover popped up and looked like the cover you described.
