I have been enjoying YA books for years now but think I may be getting too old for them...most YA's are in series or trilogies which is brilliant but most times by the time the next part is released I have read so many other books in between I can't remember half of the previous part/s of the first book/s and who anyone is 'sighs'
Anyone else have these problems? 'fingers crossed I am not alone' I tend to now wait until a whole book series is out before starting on it so I can read it all at once. The waiting can be torture when reading all the good reviews ;)
You are definitely not alone, so what I have started doing is writing myself secret notes at the end of books that are going to have sequels so I can peek back before I start the newest book.
If I don't LOVE the first book I just don't bother with further ones. I know they could be better and if people are raving about the next one I may try it, but there are too many books out there to have to re-read a mediocre one to be ready for the next one. The ones I REALLY like, I enjoy re-reading. I do like a good stand alone book with a beginning, a middle, and an end. I also do not like the release of ARCs so they can get reviews out there. It irritates me that someone else is getting to read the book and most of us are not. The reviews on ARCS are usually good because people who get them don't want to give them a bad review.
I definitely have this problem if there are years between books. I sometimes just re-read the most recent book to catch up. Sometimes I wait until more of them are released.
Depending on how much I liked the first book(s), I might reread before a new book comes out... But I don't always. And I have an AWFUL memory. I find it helpful to read reviews of the first book(s) here on GoodReads... ESPECIALLY the ones that have spoilers in them! If I'm diligent, I'll write some spoilery stuff in my reviews (and mark them), but usually I just write general impressions, so those spoiler reviews REALLY help!!
