Happy reading,
Sourabh Mukherjee

Right from the time when the pandals get finishing touches amidst untimely, ominous autumn rains through the days when friends and family come home for a few weeks, when the city erupts with festivities, when happy faces beam all around, when laughter echoes in the air, when crowds throng streets awash with lights, when the dhakis beat up a frenzy and passion soars with the dhunuchi naach, till the melancholy afternoon of sindoor khela and Maa being taken away to the Ganga, there is never a better time for stolen glances and unspoken promises.
Blurb:
Durga Puja is two weeks away and Kolkata is ready to burst into festivities. Abhishek arrives in Kolkata from Australia, along with his wife Atreyee. Shubho, an Engineering student, is his cousin. Atreyee is in desperate search of the passion that is missing in her marriage. Shubho loves his childhood sweetheart Jhimli, but finds the thrill missing in their relationship of years.
When Shubho and Atreyee meet, sparks fly. But what starts off as a secret festival romance soon gives way to jealousy and possessiveness. Will their passionate autumn romance change the lives of Shubho and Atreyee forever?

A few highlights:
The Times of India: Set in the city of Kolkata, "In The Shadows of Death: A Detective Agni Mitra Thriller" is a fast paced potboiler which hooks you and keeps you glued to the plot from the very beginning.
The Hindu: With an almost Freudian understanding of how our childhood experiences influence our adult decisions, Sourabh’s novel paints a stark picture of urban life in India
Business Standard: Just when you think you've got it all figured out as per the clues that the killer leaves like crumbs, the author throws you off the path repeatedly with the twists. A heady concoction of thrill, mystery, psychology and humanity is what makes this book such an engrossing fare.
The New Indian Express: A whodunit with several twists, In the Shadows of Death written by Sourabh Mukherjee has elements of romance, corporate scandals, and suspense with a strong emotional undercurrent.
Yahoo News: Crisp, well-composed and in a good flow, there are no loose ends to irk your mind.
Zee News: Overall, the book is a page turner till the end with its fluid narrative infused with twists and revelations, which constantly raise your curiosity level. Several flashbacks in the book also keeps a reader's interest level high.
The Free Press Journal: A psychological thriller in the true sense of the phrase, In the Shadows of Death delves deep into the psyche of its characters.
Absolute India: It is not only the adrenaline rush that ignites curiosity, but also a good storyline with a meaningful plot, and of course flawless writing that does the trick.
Tahlka News: The character of detective Agni Mitra has been rendered in a very believable and realistic fashion. The author has rummaged into the human psyche and used it as the basis for the detective's theories.
The World News Network: Mukherjee has explored the materialistic, urban life, its turmoils and fragility of relationships.
Go-Getter, Go Air in-flight magazine: The novel explores the city of Kolkata in a way few contemporary novels have attempted. The City of Joy is not just a backdrop but another character in the novel.

A few highlights:
There is nothing quite like a fast-paced murder mystery to get your heart racing and the adrenaline pumping. And, when you have a relatable Indian detective with visible flaws solving the mystery it makes for an even better read.
The book delves into the deep, dark recesses of the mind as it explores the vice-like grip that human emotions hold over our actions. With an almost Freudian understanding of how our childhood experiences influence our adult decisions, Sourabh’s novel paints a stark picture of urban life in India... his characters are not all black and white, and he is not quick to judge actions such as adultery as being sinful. Rather, he examines the several alternate reasons for their actions, which primarily have their roots in childhood experiences.
The city where (Mukherjee) grew up, Kolkata, served as a significant source of inspiration for his novel, with the action largely being set in the more up-market areas of the city. The setting also reflects his familiarity with the corporate world -- an industry that he has worked with for almost two decades.

Synopsis:
What does destiny have in store for a teenager unable to express his feelings for the girl of his dreams as their paths keep crossing through the years?
Reader reviews in Amazon, Google and Goodreads:
A story which evokes yearning in our hearts, pushing the hands of time. Sourabh is economic in his choice of words, and allows the reader's imagination to play. His style is that of a master story-teller and the build-up is strong. The end has a twist that rhymes well with the elevated level of this story. This is just the beginning; we want many more from you. Readers: THIS IS A MUST READ.
Just finished reading the Afternoon Story and have to say the ending was astounding !!! A bit 'kafkaesque'.. really impressed ... the buildup was awesome and the last chapter breath taking.
This book is a must read for all the romantics and &’cynics’ in equal measure. Me, being the cynic i am as far as romantic stories are concerned, was surprised by how much the book touched me. Really recommend this book.
Its a beautiful story, written in an extremely simple, subtle and poignant style. The story keeps drawing you in and you can't let go till you reach the end. The way the story unfolded was beautiful yet unexpected.
Is really a lucid read. I really liked how the author articulated the inner feelings of the protagonist. Also, must appreciate the in-depth description of emotions and the detailed visual effect of our very well-known and well lived Kolkata that we all have grown up in and are so familiar with.I could almost visualize the scenes opening up and enacting in front of my eyes. It also helped me getting nostalgic and took me to a trip down my memory lane. The suspense of the story has been well kept under the wraps. So for sure you've well stitched and well-timed it like all pro story tellers. Last but not the least it's not a run of the mill cliched story where the endings are always.... ‘and they lived happily ever after’.
Amazing story. The author rightly depicts the nuances of childhood crushes which transforms into a platonic obsession for a beautiful girl. The amazing factor is this has been portrayed over a span of a summer. The depiction of the rickety school bus, the ice lolly man etc. draws the picture of an Indian childhood. It definitely brought in memories from mine. Lovely finish to the story.story titles appropriate too. Shall look forward for more such interesting stories from the author.
Oh what a treat it was! Just the right amount of text and right amount of story telling with minimum characters... The ending was unexpected, but it made all so much sense with that last line in the story. It almost seemed to me as if a puzzle was solved in all the readers' minds... it made all sense to me after all.

A brisk read with a lasting impact, 'Loves Lost' is a collection of three contemporary romantic short stories that take the reader on a whirlwind journey interspersed with betrayal, separation, heartbreak and a smile or two.

'Sourabh Mukherjee has left his mark through this book: Nargis - Through My Summers. A story which evokes the yearning in our own heart, pushing the hands of time, praying for the boy to succeed in catching the eyes of Nargis. All of us, in our by-gone age, must have mentally waited for our Nargis. Sourabh is economic in his choice of words, tells a little, allows the reader's imagination to play in full speed, will the boy succeed or will he not. Sourabh evokes the curiosity in our heart. The style is that of a master story-teller and the build-up is strong. Nargis grows in front of our eyes through these few pages. End is having a twist, that rhymes well with the high level of this story. Sourabh: this is just the beginning, we want many many more, from you. Readers: THIS IS A MUST READ.'

If any of you downloaded Nargis Through my Summers FREE from the Kindle store last week, it would be nice if you can kindly post a review with ratings.
