“Scholars have argued that without humanism the Reformation could not have succeeded, and it is certainly difficult to imagine the Reformation occurring without the knowledge of languages, the critical handling of sources, the satirical attacks on clerics and scholastics, and the new national feeling that a generation of humanists provided. On the other hand, the long-term success of the humanists owed something to the Reformation. In Protestant schools and universities classical culture found a permanent home. The humanist curriculum, with its stress on languages and history, became a lasting model for the arts curriculum.”
Steven Ozment, The Age of Reform 1250-1550: An Intellectual and Religious History of Late Medieval and Reformation Europe

Irvine Welsh
“writing about drugs is like that though, isn't it? You can just tell when someone is writing about drugs and they've never really done them. It screams out at you. That's something where I believe you have to have been there to really get it, y'know?”
Irvine Welsh

Thomas Bernhard
“Kad u glavi imamo rečenice, mislio sam, još uvek nemamo odlučnost i da ih stavimo na papir. Rečenice nas plaše, najpre nas plaši misao, onda rečenica, naposletku to što tu rečenicu možda više nemamo u glavi kada hoćemo da je zapišemo. Vrlo često neku rečenicu prerano zapišemo, neku, opet, prekasno; rečenicu moramo da zapišemo u pravom trenutku, inače je zauvek izgubljena.”
Tomas Bernhard

Gillian Flynn
“Because you can't be as in love as we were and not have it invade your bone marrow. Our kind of love can go into remission, but it's always waiting to return. Like the world's sweetest cancer.”
Gillian Flynn, Gone Girl

Albert Camus
“It is necessary to fall in love – the better to provide an alibi for all the despair we are going to feel anyway.”
Albert Camus
