Galbatorix is dead, the Empire released from his evil rule, and his servants, The Raz'ac are gone. A new era of peace has been brought about. Or so everyone thought.
A new threat is gaining power, unbeknownst to the Riders. Eragon and Saphira are on Vroengard, Arya and Firnen are in Du Weldenvarden, and Murtagh and Thorn haven't been heard from in years.
They don't know what's going on in the Hadarac Desert, what's living there.
One year ago, a human Rider was sentenced to exile, for abusing his powers. He went into the Hadarac Desert to practice dark magic, and he went too far. He summoned too many too powerful spirits, and they overpowered him, creating the first Shade Dragon Rider, who took the name "Mordan." The Rider's Dragon, Amaranth, is purely evil, and now happily shares it's Rider bond with Mordan. The two have converted five Riders to their side, and are getting ready to launch their attack on Alagaësia. They also have other dangerous allies: The Ra'zac. They snuck in across the sea, undetected, and now live again in Helgrind. Their numbers remain unknown, but it is estimated that there are between eighteen or twenty Ra'zac, and six or eight Lethrblaka.
There is still hope for the rest of Alagaësia, however. The Good Riders number around fifteen, and the Elves are still a major strength in the world. The Empire has flourished under Nasuada's rule, and their military might is stronger than it was when Galbatorix ruled. Surda, after doubling in size, is also a force to be reckoned with. The Dwarves in the Beor Mountains have recovered since the war against the Empire, and will lend their support when needed.
The coming war will be bloody, and many will die. Will Mordan and Amaranth succeed, or will the combined might of Alagaësia be enough to withstand the coming storm?...more
