Fascinating. My main criticism, other than Preston’s continual criticisms of the revolutionary defence forces during the civil war, is that he has written a 500 page book with just 4 chapters. Unless you read 100 plus pages a time, you have to re-read previous pages to find out where you were up to ever time you pick up the book.
He’s a fine historian, but doesn’t know much about his readers habits.
